Hello, List, It has been a while since I have posted or worked but interest never leaves, just gets knocked out of the way. I'm still hoping to find proof of the existence of John Nichols, father of Jackson Nichols, born 1811 in Bedford County, TN. I believe he was in Hertford Co. in 1800. Linda, we have touched base before but it has been a while. Anything new with you? I received a letter (Postal Service) from Maurice L. Jenkins of Sun City, CA. He is looking for John Jenkins, born in Bertie Co. in 1700, died in 1779. Wife was Anne and his son James married Mary. James was born in 1726 and died in 1796, in Bertie County. I realize that this is not Hertford (the latter, anyway) but there were and still are Jenkins folks here in Hertford. If you can help this fellow let me know. If I remember correctly, Linda, you are researching Wright Nichols? or was it William? Do you know if the Nichols men were in the local Militia or the Continentals during the Rev. War? Methinks that maybe Col. Hardy Murfree might have gone with a bunch of men from this area to Rutherford and Bedford Counties, TN. ( Murfreesboro, TN was named for Hardy Murfree by his friend Lytle, if I have the story straight.) Carol
Hi Carol, Linda and List, It has been so long since I have been in touch that I am embarrassed to write to you. I saw Linda's note to a fellow last night and then Carol's post just now and am hoping that perhaps you all will forgive my long absence. I have really missed *talking* with you all and working on genealogy. Have some pretty neat info regarding Nathaniel Nichols with the NC Militia that has been shared with me through the years that might be of use to you right now. If so please let me know OK?
