I am looking for more information on Jethro and Milly BAKER and their family. Jethro was on the 1820 Hertford County Census. His neighbors were Timothy Baker and Cassander Baker. Jethro died before 1830. His wife Milly married Abner ALSTON, a neighbor. Jethro and Milly had at least three children, Martha, Sarah, and Joseph. Martha died in 1835. James NOWELL, was guardian for Joseph Baker. I believe that James married Sarah Baker about Dec. 1838. They had two children, Isaac b. Sep 1839 and Milley Ann b. Mar 1842. Sarah died sometime after the birth of Milley Ann. James NOWELL then married Elizabeth MORRISS, the widow of Wm. Morriss of Bertie County. Could someone please tell me when John and Martha Brickell died. He was dead by the 1790 census. The tax list of that year still mentions him. There was one remaining female in the household, probably Martha. Thanks for any help. Marcia
ELLIE, I regret to say that none of the names are familier. I had family in WALLA WALLA, WASHINGTON in the 1870's, but as far as I know none marriedanyone by those names. I do hope you can find the rightful owners. Only yesterday my brother and I went to clean out a shed used by a man to work on lawn mowers, this man gave everything in the shed to my brother. While looking around I found a picture album with 10-20 pictures from the 1940's to 1960's? My brother said the man and his wife had no children and the picture album had been in a fire with the edges scorched. I left the album there but put it up on a shelf. My brother is going to try to find the man again to see about the pictures, so maybe we can find out who they belong to. The man moved out of town but left no phone number to get a hold of him, so we may have to wait. Such a shame that so many people don't seem to care. My cousin from CALIFORNIA, CYD RAWLS at sent out a notice yesterday that some city employee in VIRGINIA is trying to get the city council to through out all of the court records that are over so many years old to make room for newer records, this has happened before. We needto find a place to store all of these unwanted records and pictures. BOBBY RAWLS 100 N. COTTONWOOD BIG SPRING, TEXAS 79720-1769 (915)267-5636 brrawls@crcom.net

Glad this list has started. I am looking for info on the BACON family prior to 1850. Is there a Hertford Cty cemetery book ? Henry Winborn Bacon and James Foster Bacon, brothers,b in NC and came to Mississippi in 1840s as young men. Henry maybe named for Mr Winborn of early Hertford history. Bacons likely came to NC from Va. Jimmy in Ms
I am researching Lewis Ezell who was born in Hertford Co 1780. His son David's Bible states that Lewis's father was Benjamin Ezell. Benjamin appears on the Hertford tax list in 1779. I understand that the courthouse in Hertford Co. has burned twice. Other than a few tax lists, I have been unable to locate records for this time period. I will welcome any information about this family and any suggestions regarding sources of records for Hertford Co. Sandy Sharp Ingram, Texas
If anyone knows of any Clay family in this area, please email me. I am so happy about this list. I've been waiting and waiting for it. Beth
It is no surprise to anyone that there are LOTS of HARRELLs in North Carolina, particularly around Hertford, Bertie & Gates counties. It seems like almost everyone of them named one of their sons WILLIAM, too! Would be extremely grateful to anyone who could help me sort them out and prove the missing link in our lineage. A family heirloom, a large calligraphy-type drawing under glass in a picture frame, contains the following information of our known ancestor: W.A. HARREL was borned March 20, 1856 near Winton, North Carolina. We spell the name HARRELL. I believe he was from the area of what is now the City of Harrellsville. Family tradition states that Billy came to Arkansas when about six years of age, or about 1862. He has only one known sister, Sarah Ann (Sallie Ann) Harrell b 1861 NC who married James O. Quattlebaum. Very little is known about Billy's father whose name, according to family Bible records, was William David A. Harrell born June 26, 1833. His mother said to be Sophia Hill born August 12, 1835 NC. However, because of the 5-year age difference between Billy and Sallie, it's possible they could have had different mothers though Sophia was the one who raised Billy and was the only mother he knew. Family tradition says that William David A. Harrell was killed during the war. Sophia was in White County, Arkansas by the 1870 census in the household with new husband, Luke T. Hutchinson who she married April 12, 1870. Billy and Sallie had a half-brother, L.D. Hutchinson, born in 1873. W.A. "Billy" Harrell married Missouri Ann Stites on December 19, 1878. Their children were: William Henry, Jethro O. 1880, Armittie 1882, Ethel Starr 1889, Lena 1893 and Nora 1899. Jethro is another name that seems to have been passed down through generations. Does anyone have any data on HARRELLs that might help? Is there a HARRELL database out there... anywhere? Martha in Texas
