I am wondering if the Daniel PARKER family shown in the 1790 census of Hertford Co., NC could possibly be my ancestors of the same name. My Daniel Parker was married to a Susan somebody; somewhere in NC had children Edward, Alfred, William, and Betsey, and maybe others; and moved away after Edward the youngest was born about 1796 possibly to avoid a manslaughter charge against Daniel. We also know Daniel was related in some way to Pleasant Lewis PARKER (born VA about 1775) and also to Susan Elizabeth PARKER who married John F. YOUNG probably in NC and during the 1780s had children in NC Sarah, Bartheny, and possibly Betsey YOUNG. Various of these Parkers and Youngs lived in NC, SC, and later southeast KY. They are extremely hard to trace partly because they moved around so much. Does anyone know anything about the Daniel PARKER shown in the 1790 census of Hertford Co., NC? Hi: I am hoping someone belonging to the Hertford County Mailing list is researching the descendents of Nathaniel Saunders who was my great grandfather's Father-in-Law. According to the 1850 Hertford County census, Nathaniel Saunders was 30 years old, his wife, Sophia, was 31. At that time, they had four children, Celia, William F., Simeon P. and Mary A. who married my grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Parker in January 1875. On Thomas Jefferson Parker's death certificate, it states he was born in Hertford County, and his Mother's name was Sophia. I have searched the 1850 census for a Sophia Parker and her son but haven't been able to locate them, therefore, I cannot find who the father was. Any information about these families would really be appreciated. Thanks, Trudy Swain

Posted on: Hertford Co. NC Deeds Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/HertfordDeed?read=6 Surname: Parker, Saunders, Jones, Harmon ------------------------- Hi: My husband's maternal great grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Parker. According to the information I have, he was born 21 Dec 1847, and died 24 Jan 1915 in Hertford County, NC. He married Mary Sarah Saunders, daughter of Nathaniel Saunders, 12 Sep 1875 in Hertford County. Their daughter, Elizabeth Sophia Parker, married Charles Washington Harmon 22 Feb 1900 in Hertford County. One of their sons, Jesse Harmon, married Susie Jones, in Hertford County. I am trying to find the parents of Thomas Jefferson Parker. Since some of these names are mentioned in this deed, I thought perhaps you might be able to help me. I will appreciate any information. Thanks, Trudy Swain
Posted on: Hertford Co. NC Deeds Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/HertfordDeed?read=5 Surname: Jones ------------------------- Deed dated February 26,1900,Hertford County,North Carolina,by Jos.M. Brinkley & wife, Victoria,to Christian O. Jones, land known as the PARKER PLACE. Bounded as follows: Beginning at the fork is a fence,a corner tree of Nathaniel Saunders & D.C. Miller .Beginning there,a S.W. course across the Harbor Rd. to J.J. Evans line to the branch, thence a S.W. line to D. C. Miller line, thence along said line nearby a N.W. course to the said road down the branch to the station containing seventy acres more or less . The deed is very hard to read and all the words can't be made out with the naked eye. In November ,1900 Christian O. Jones bought from Elizabeth Saunders, excutrix of the James Saunders estate,a fifty acre parcel of land known as the NAT SAUNDERS PLACE. That made the Jones farm a total of 120 acres, more or less. Christian died shortly after she bought this land and it went to her 7 living children after the death of her husband Thomas Melvin Jones in 1947.
