Hello Sharon (Rollinlibrarian), As a native of Harrellsville, my mother lives two doors down from where "Mrs. Wilder" lived on S. Quebec Street. She is deceased now (for about 15 years) but I bet she was the daughter of William J. Wilder and Martha Pierce Wilder. Her daughter is still living in Harrellsville on Taylor Street. Her name is Marion Wilder Johnson. If you called her I am sure she could help you with information on William Wilder. Thanks and Good Luck, Mike Vann Perry
Hi Ken, I don't think those things are in a list. But that's the kind of thing I would like to incorporate into the new web site design, so thanks for the ideas! >1. Is there a list of "locations" in the County(townships, etc.)? No, but I have a map and I will list them for you from that: (It's an informal list that I'm reading from the map itself, btw, so if I miss anything or you need to locate something in particular, please let me know.) Towns and Communities: Winton (county seat), Cofield, Como, Harrelsville, Murfreesboro, Mapleton, Ahoskie, Union, Taylor Pond, St. John, Poor Town, Fraziers Crossroads, Bethlehem, Newsome, Lloyd Crossroads, Pilands Crossroads, Halls, Tunis, Pleasant Plains, California, Mintons Store, Barretts Crossroads, Mill Neck, Britts Store, Parkers Ferry Rivers and Creeks: Meherrin River, Chowan River, Wiccacon River, Meherrin River, Potecasi Creek Higher Education: Chowan College, Roanoke-Chowan Community College Airports: Jernigan Airport, Tri-County Airport State and U.S. Roads: NC 561, 45, 11, 35, 305, 42, 461 U.S. 13, 158, 258 >2. What is the proper way to send a msg to the List(I know I can answer a >msg someone else sends in)? Specifically send to NCHERTFO-L@rootsweb.com only or in addition to a message, like I did with this one (see above). I hope that helps! -Susan
My research in Hertford County is limited to HURDLE and LASSITER. Of course, I have several other surnames in the surrounding counties. Mostly Bertie and Northampton Counties. Susan, thanks for the update and the offer for incidental research. My surname of interest is WYNN(S). I am particularly interested in the family of William Baker Wynns (dec. before 1797). He was the son of Benjamin Wynns (1716 - ~ 1777) and Catherine Baker. (I noted that you had BAKER on your surname list, so I am interested in Catherine Baker's line, as well). My line is through William Baker Wynns' son, Benjamin (~1785 - ? ), of "Union, Hertford Co." My current brickwall of interest is the parents of George Wynns (1675 -1751), of Bertie Precinct. He was married to Rose Bush (1689 - 1752), and I have her line back to Isle of Wight, Co. VA and probably back to John Bush (1575 -1624), of Essex, England and Elizabeth City, VA. Thanks. >>> Susan Graham <susang777@mindspring.com> 06/26/01 12:23PM >>> Welcome to the Hertford County mail list! I'm Susan Lassiter Graham and I'm helping with the administration of this list while the current administrator helps his wife out with their new twins. <smile> I'm also working on revamping the web site, so if you have any suggestions or comments or questions about it, please let me know. That goes for you old-timers, too. I'll be researching in NC in a couple of weeks for a couple of weeks (without children, even! they get to go to grandma's), so if you have any particular research requests, let me know and I'll keep an eye out while I'm researching. I won't have time for specific research for you this time, but I might just see something while I look around. I've been making sure to look at neighbors' information, too, in case I miss a relative and to get a better feel for what was happening. -Susan Lassiter Graham ==== NCHERTFO Mailing List ==== Thank you for joining the Hertford County mail List! ============================== Shop Ancestry - Everything you need to Discover, Preserve & Celebrate your heritage! http://shop.myfamily.com/ancestrycatalog

I am looking for proof that Ryon Sowell (b. 27 Aug 1799 in Bertie Co, NC; married Ann Letsinger in Maury Co, TN and died in Maury on 4 Dec 1852) is the son of Charles Sowell (b. ca 1775 and d. ca 1839) and Molly Wynns (b. ca 1773 and d. ca 1844). Charles' will and family Bible do not include a Ryon, but it has been said again and again that Ryon is the son of Charles. Any light? Further to my original posting with respect to parents of BRYANT BOON and LUKE AND MARY HARE: time frame for these individuals would be mid-18th century to early 19th century. They possibly came to Hertford County from Isle of Wight County Virginia. I have no information as to the siblings of either. BRYANT BOON appeared in the 1810 census for Hertford County; was married and had children but the 1810 census gave only the name of head of household. In 1820 census he was in Davidson County, Tennessee with his second wife who he probably married in 1817. He died in Graves County, Kentucky in the 1830's. From his grave marker in Kentucky we know that he was born in 1790 in Hertford County. The HARES often appeared in the same vicinity in those census' where we have found BRYANT BOON.
