    1. JOHNSONs as Scoundrels
    2. Thanks, Michael, Virginia, and all, We suspected as much. A lot of our JOHNSONs were murderers and thieves in KY later throughout the nineteenth century and well into the twentieth. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but our branch of Johnsons has had a lot of truth to face. Particularly, for the last three generations we have turned to the Lord and education to attempt to reverse the course many of our ancestors have set for us. My grandfather, disturbed by the crimes of his brothers and others, ordered all his children to leave Appalachia and never come back except to visit. I say this with respect and not to belittle the many fine accomplishments of my Johnson ancestors. I'm sure my Carolina cousins have not performed acts any more heinous than my Kentucky ones. Now that we've cleared the air, I still wish to know who my Carolina ancestors were and where they came from. We suspect they came to NC and SC from VA or PA, like most of the other Johnson families in that area. Can I get more information about this mysterious Edward Johnson and particularly who his children were? Would someone be brave enough to tell me about the Saluda Johnsons? I won't tell you about our KY crimes if you won't tell me about the NC ones. Deal? With respect, Bruce Nichols Mapmaker3@aol.com
