<<Joseph Lane Jr (1710-1776) and Patience McKinne (1712-1762) lived in the Halifax County area. I'm trying to locate a record of their marriage, which occurred in 1730. >> In "Southside Virginia Families" Vol. II by John Bennett Boddie, pgs. 290-302 'LANE of SURRY and SUSSEX, Virginia' - there is a great deal of information on this LANE family. I do not know how much of it is verifiable by other sources, but this is what he says: Joseph LANE, evidently the son of Jilian & Joseph LANE, Sr., married Patience, dau. of Maj. Barnaby MCKINNIE, Sr. of Halifax Co., NC in 1730 (NC Col. Rec. 11.317,519) Joseph's eldest son John LANE had a dau. named "Jilian". Maj. MCKINNIE m. Mary, widow of Jacob RICKS and daughter of Jeremiah EXUM, Justice of Isle of Wight, VA. Mourning MCKINNIE, sister of Patience, m. John POPE. There is a close relationship between the POPE and LANE families - they later migrated together to Georgia. Jos. LANE & Patience his wife sold to John HARDY, Gent. 200 A. of land in Edgecombe for 200 pds. Land patent by Benj. HILL & by him convyed to Jos. LANE 1 Apr 1743 (Halifax DB 3:213) --There are pages more, that I do not have completely transcribed. If you do not have a local copy of the book, please let me know, and I'll send what I've got. Also - referencing a followup inquiry on Joseph LANE and wife Sally BRICKELL - according to Boddie (and some other docs I've seen) the Joseph who was son of the above Jos. & wife Patience, married Pherebe (Ferribee) HUNTER, lived in Wake Co., NC then went to Morgan Co., AL where he died abt Nov 1825. I have a full, original copy of the will - it is also posted on the usgenweb site for Morgan Co., AL. However - ANOTHER Joseph LANE died in Wake Co., NC in 1798. I believe he was a cousin, as there were MULTIPLE Joseph LANEs in the area...you may want to check this LANE site: http://www.genweb.net/~bowers/lane/thomasl.htm However, other researchers on the genforum have noticed some inaccuracies in this info. Perhaps it will lead you in some good directions. I do know what happened to the children of Joseph and Pherebe Hunter LANE - because they married into a BURT family I was tracing - if this applies to anyone. Regards Donna Warner Los Angeles
