John H. Wood b. 1815 ( a mile or so north of Scotland Neck) and d. Feb. 1888 at his home near Weldon. He was married to Martha A. Curry b. 1817 near Hobgood. Looking for their date of marriage and his parents names. 2. Joseph Summerell b. 1799 in Virginia d. 1867 in Halifax Co., married Amaryllis Whitfield (her 1st husband was Willie Jones) b. 28 Sep. 1813 d. 1 Oct. 1891. Looking for their date of marriage and where buried. Her sister's (Minnie Summerell Lucas) obituary mentioned the Summerell family cemetery not too far from the Weldon United Methodist Church in Weldon. Does anyone know where the cemetery is. My thought is that Joseph and Amaryllis may be buried there also. 3. Thomas Whitfield b. 1721 in Isle of Wight Co., Va. and d. 1781 in Nash Co., NC, was m. 1740 in Isle of Wight Co., Va. to Mary Harrison b. 1725 d. 1792. Thomas' will names his son, William. DAR applications from the 1920's show the following lineage with no proofs, looking for the proofs on the lineage: 2nd gen. - William b. 1759 d. 1806 m. Elizabeth in 1779 3rd gen. - William b. 1780 d. 1846 m. 25 May 1809 Temperance Jones b. 1783 d. Oct. 1854 ( dau. of Joshua Jones b. 1756 d. 1820 and Amaryllis ______? b. 1759 d. 1820. 4th gen. - Amaryllis Whitfield b. 28 Sept. 1813 d. 1 Oct. 1891 m. 2nd in 1841 Joseph Summerell b. 1799 in VA d. 1867 in Halifax County. I am need of positive proofs on the above information. Also, The Roanoke News dated July 17, 1924 carried an article on some land in Halfax County that was first granted by King George III in 1742 to Marmaduke Kinbrough and by hereditary transmission and intermarriage, became the property of William Whitfield (1759- 1806), who willed it to his sons John and William, John turning over his half to his brother William not long after that. William lived there till his death in 1846. Part of the land was sold after his death, the home tract remaining in the family and going to the widow of a grandson of William's, who was living on the home tract. An acre of this tract was a "graveyard" in which generations of the Whitfield family were buried. Does anyone in Halifax County or elsewhere know where this land and cemetery are located? 4. Joshua Jones (1756 - 1820) m. Amaryllis _______? (1759 - 1820) was granted land on 20 Dec. 1791, on the north side of Little Quankee Creek next to Richard Woods. Looking for information on them, date of marriage, her maiden name and who their parents were. Any information on any part of the above that can be provided, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
