    1. Re: [NCHALIFA] Kehukee Baptist Church
    2. Hello Ann, I apologize for being so long in responding to your query re: Kehukee Baptist Church in Halifax Co NC. I also have an ancestor who attended this church and in 1995 I wrote to the church inquiring about their records. It seems that there is also a KEHUKIE Baptist Church which has a black congregation. My letter went to them and a member of that Church gave it to Mr. Wilbur Weeks who was the caretaker at the time. Mr. Weeks gave it to Mr. Charlie Dunn Alston who responded to me. Mr. Alston is affliated with the Halifax Co Genealogical Society and you may wish to contact him. However, in his letter, he stated that the last member of the Church died in 1979 and it has been inactive since them. For a while there were yearly meetings for relatives and friends of members but they have also died out except Mr. Weeks and he was in poor health. Mr. Alston also said that the minutes of the church's quarterly meetings from about 1859 (when the church was reorganized) until the last member died in 1979 are on microfilm in the North Carolina Archives. He said sometimes an obit was written and placed in the minutes, sometimes not. He also referred to it as Primitive Baptist Church. He said the minutes are not indexed so be prepared to spend some time. You can contact Mr. Alston through the Halifax Co Genealogical Society. Hope this helps. What surnames are you researching out of Halifax Co.? My surnames are HUDSON/HUTSON, BRILEY, DAVENPORT Bea Hudson
