These collections include the papers of alumni of the college and university, as well as papers of North Carolina-related Baptists. Papers of several North Carolina Baptist institutions, such as the NC Baptist State Convention and the Woman's Missionary Union, are also a part of this collection. Materials within the various collections include diaries, literary manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, sermons, audio recordings, drawings, and other items. These collections are open to the public, except for particular collections marked as confidential. In the case of confidential records, permission of the originating body must be obtained to view the papers. Burkitt's letter, March 24 1789, to Thomas Ustick, a Baptist pastor in Philadelphia, PA, mentions his church, Sandy Run, Bertie Co., N.C.; the Kehukee Baptist Association; and the new Federal Constitution. See: FISHING CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH [E] (1786-1887), HALIFAX CO., N.C. --- FISHING CREEK [E], 1756-1887 Halifax Co. N.C. Constituted Oct. 13, 1756 as Lower Fishing Creek. Kehukee Association minutes are missing for l775. Not represented in Tar River Association in l834 but the church had petitioned Kehukee, now a Primitive Baptist Association, for membership. They were advised to wait until difficulties were settled. In 1835 delegates were listed. In 1836 the church was listed for the last time in Tar River Association. As early as 1874 a committee was appointed to dissolve the church. Finally in 1887 the Kehukee Primitive Association visited "Daniel's Meeting House" (an alternative name for Fishing Creek), and gave letters of dismissal to the remaining members to unite with other churches.
