I have some Bible records copied from the Halifax Library that may mean something to me if I can make the connection. There are more records in my possession than I have listed below so if someone is interested, I can provide more detail. My interest in the Hawkins family is because I descend from Isham Hawkins who died in Halifax in 1817. The name Wyatt shows up in the family and so I was curious about these Bible records. There are middle names of Davis, Reddin, and Norfleet mentioned. Children of Wyatt Hawkins and wife Martha: Richard Davis Hawkins born 9 Mar 1822 William Elah Hawkins born 15 Jun 1824 Howell Reddin Hawkins born 11 May 1827 Margaret Anmariah Hawkins born 19 Dec 1829 Wyatt Hawkins Jr. born 7 Aug 1831 Frances Rebecca Hawkins born 20 Mar 1834 Ambrose Hawkins 5 Apr 1836 Louisa Norfleet Hawkins born 11 Nov 1838 Martha Mary Elizabeth Hawkins born 23 Jul 1840 It appears that Wyatt Hawkins or his father moved to Halifax County from Warren County. I don't know if this will help or not, but I am a descendant of the Norfleet line, Marmaduke Norfleet and Judith Rhodes, they had a daughter named Sarah Norfleet who into the Jeffreys family, they had a son named Marmaduke Norfleet Jeffreys who married Hannah Loise Hill, she was the daughter of Jordon Hill and Mary Green, I will try to help all I can if this is your line, I am searching for info on the Mary Green family, this has been my brick wall, thanks Vickie CuzzHunter@aol.com wrote: > Hi, > I am new to the list and look forward to communicating with researchers of > the following families. > HOGAN, James and Ruth Blunt > HOGAN, James and Ruth Norfleet > BULL, Ambrose and Elizabeth (Hogan - Johnson) > CAMPBELL, ??? who m. When I first started investigating my son-in-law's family, within three weeks I had more information on his family than I had found in 35 years of research on my own family!! It was because of the famous Brig. Gen. that was on Sullivan Island when the British wouldn't even allow the prisoners to fish for their meals. More or less, starved them to death!! He died there with his troops. Would be interested to know what you also have on Elizabeth Hogan, the daughter of Lemuel (I'm assuming) that you have info on her marriage and her family. I live in Ohio and had the "fun" of visiting the site they have a memorial roadside sign where he owned and lived for a while close to Hobgood. Do keep in touch. Hiya! Thank you for picking up my slack! I had wanted to respond to Forrest in much the same fashion, but it got away from me. Along with the Halifax mail list, I also subbed the Bertie list (again). It along with the Gen. boards for 2 counties, the club, and the 20 or so people I have built computer systems for, have become a bit overwhelming I must admit. I will get a handle on it soon. I have also continued to put off writing the Hertford list, and I am starting to feel guilty for it. But I still have too many other unfinished projects in the way. I'm a Virgo! I'm supposed to be annoyingly organized..........HA! I'll get a rhythm soon. I wanted to ask your opinion, I have noticed some of the list owners are posting the Add. Min. notices generated from their GenConnect boards to their county mail list. Is this a "good idea"? Still plunkin' along, John F.
Thank you John, I appreciate your time. I have unsubscribed from the DRAKE list and it is nice to hear from you. Tristram was a new one for me. Regards, Margaret Driskill MDriskill@worldnet.att.net

Dear Becky, Thank you for checking for me. No, I do not think they are mine, because they (John and Tristram DRAKE) are STILL in Halifax in 1794, and my John said he was born in Virginia. So what I was hoping for was that John and Tristram would be gone from any records, unless it was a Will for one of them. Which would be great if it mentioned a son, John. Thank you for you kind time in checking for me. Regards, Margaret Driskill MDriskill@worldnet.att.net
I am interested in this line. I have an ancestor named Turner HARRISON from Halifax Co NC. I don't know the connection to a TURNER line, but if I found one, I am sure it would answer some of my questions. I do not know where the HARRISONs lived before they moved to Halifax, but the married into a family from Sussex VA who also moved. I have not checked Southampton records yet. Any help would be appreciated. This is a rerun of my James family that lived just barely over the line in Southampton County, VA. Family information has it that their land(near Branchville)was James land before Southampton County was formed from Isle of Wight County in 1746. However, the earliest I have been able to get information is just after 1800. James James(birth/death date and places unk)married in 1838 in Souithampton Cnty to Sarah Harrison b 1821 VA dau of Catherine Harrison b 1800. However, James James had a brother Mark who was born in 1812.James James seems to have disappeared before 1850.The censuses list three children born to James & Sarah between 1840-46: Nathaniel T., Benjamin Allen(listed in the census as "Allen B.")and Joshua Cummins. Sarah was living in her mother's household in the 1850 census as if they both were widows(Catherine was a widow before 1838).Sarah's younger Harrison siblings(born between 1823 and 1838)were: Allen J.,Hannah A., Andrew J., Elizabeth H.& Benson F.The Jameses, Harrisons and the Turner family there in Southampton Cnty, VA married back and forth until it's difficult to tell exactly how everyone was kin.If anyone has an interest in the JAMES, TURNER or HARRISON names, I would be interested in hearing from them. Dear Fellow Researchers, I found the above individual with 4-1-2-0-1 persons on the 1790 census. I have searched in Virginia entirely because the Great gr.Grandfather I seek, John Drake, born 1794 listed on the 1850 Lunenburg County, Virginia Census, that he was born in Virginia. I have been at a dead end in trying to find his parents. Yesterday, someone on the Virginia Southside LIST, suggested North Carolina. I found the above individual. What has attracted by interest, is the given name. My grandmother had a middle name of Disston. We knew it was from a relative, but for the life of me, I could never find a connection. Until yesterday. It may be a long shot, but if she were named after her grandfather, Tristram (Pron:Tristam) this could have ended up being spelled Disston? Who knows. All of this to ask if anyone has any deed books, or will books for Halifax covering the 1775 to 1800 time frame that might have surname, DRAKE? Any information to send me looking elsewhere would be appreciated. Regards, Margaret Driskill MDriskill@worldnet.att.net http://home.att.net/~MDriskill
Hi, My Jordon went to Stewart County in Middle-Tennessee. I have these children listed for him and Rachel: Joseph Orville Benjamin Franklin Jordan Jr. Nancy Jarrod Some went to Kentucky for a while, but most returned to Tennessee. I have been told that Jordon's father was Benjamin, but I don't know for sure yet which Benjamin he belonged to. I have been told that the key to my Benjamin is that he was from Halifax Co, as opposed to the Benjamin that lived in Halifax District of Edgecomb Co. I am new to your list. I am researching the Champion surname. What I am mainly looking for is a birthdate for Jordon/Jordan/Jourdain Champion. He traveled west from Halifax, NC to Tennessee, in about 1806. The only information I have on his birthdate is Abt. 1777. Jordon married Rachel White who was also from N.C. She was born in Abt. 1790. Thanks for your time, Debbie Champion

I have enjoyed learning about those Halifax Co families that I was not familiar with. About the time I think I have heard of them all another ones pops up. It's been a pleasure and an honor to build the revised NCGenWeb site for Halifax County over the summer, and I've enjoyed reading your mail and getting to know you. Now, school has resumed, and Halifax Co. is being adopted by John Godwin. You may have met him already as the list owner of the NCHERTFO list, and the county coordinator of the Hertford website for about a month. He has many roots in the Hertford and Halifax area, and will be a good coordinator! Please welcome John to the new post. I'm pleased to be leaving it in good hands, and the URL will not change. His email address should be appearing on the home page very shortly. Thank (!) those of you who helped me build the website up--especially Becky Dozier for the bibliography and for volunteering to look up *so many* things! I hope to see great things happen as the website and the mail list join forces to put Halifax resources on line. I'm not un-subbing from this list. Some of my ancestors are still sleeping in the vicinity. Maybe I'll have some time to do research of my own now! Visit me elsewhere...
