Can anyone tell me where the Pierce Church and Campground is located in Halifax County. Also anything about the history of it. According to my gggrandfather's obituary, he was "saved" at this church and attended meetings at the campground. Any information will be appreciated. Norvill

Dan, Speaking of Balaam Bull and Randall Bull, do you have information that they were in Halifax. I only have they were from North Carolina. Thanks, April In a message dated 9/13/1999 7:23:54 PM, CuzzHunter@aol.com writes: >Those Bull names don't sound familiar to me but I will check my data closely.
Dear Patty, my family line also connects witht the Norfleet line and Jeffreys as well. Simon Jeffreys married Sarah Norfleet, she was the daughter of Marmaduke Norfleet , they had a son named Marmaduke Norfleet Jeffreys who married Hannah Louise Hill, she was the daughter of Jordon Hill and Mary Green, Jordon was the son of Green Hill and Nancy Thomas. I have lots of info on the Jeffreys side and some on the Norfleet side, since you are connected to these familys have you or anyone else ever run across any of the Green family connections. I will gladly share the info I have on this line, thanks Vickie DOBEVET@aol.com wrote: > All these Halifax families are connected in my Drew line. I can tell you approxamately where Woodson Daniel lived in Wake Co. A Wake Co. court order Sep., 1771 stated," Upper end of Wake Co. needs a road from Munn's store to the Wake Co. courthouse, and from the store to the Orange Co. line at the wagon path that goes to Wortham Glenn's Ford on the Enoe River." Men ordered to build the road included John Alston, Richard Clements, Sam Peek, William Reeves, Thomas Ferrell, Woodson Daniel, George Jordan (my ancestor), James Howell, and Thomas Stand. Also, Woodson Daniel replaced Reuben Allen as constable of the Panther Creek area about the end of 1774. Panther Creek is just southeast of I-85 on southside of Neuse River (Falls Lake) just NE of Durham. The old road to Oxford runs just south of this creek and is now a path through the woods - but there are still ruins of 200 year old log houses there (just south of the Panther Creek bridge on Road 1637). In researching my Carpenter line, there are some Daniels in Wake Co. In 1792 a Woodson Daniel's will with many heirs and a Reeves as exector along with William Carpenter as witnessed was executed. Any connection? Louis Carpenter

Betty: Yes, it is Brig. Gen. James Hogun/Hogan that died a prisoner of the British on Sullivan Island SC (b. Northern Ireland 1721 d. Jan 4 1781). Do youhave any dates and/or places to go with the names you are searching? Do you also know any details as to "your" Elizabeth Hogan, her children, parents, or dates or places? I have most of Arthur Hogan's family set out I believe. This is for Suzie who asked me to spell out how the James, Turner and Harrison families of Southampton County, VA intermarried back and forth over and over again in multiple directions. This information was provided back in the 1950's mostly by an eighty someodd year old gentleman David Harrison who corresponded with my mother for several years. My GGGF was James James(no other details available)who m 1838 Sarah "Sally" Harrison b 1821 VA dau of widow Catherine C. Harrison b 1800 VA.James and Sally had three children b between 1840-46:Nathaniel(killed at Antietam),Benjamin Allen(called "Allen") and Joshua Cummins(called "Josh"). The old gentleman above David Harrison(who also had a brother Edd) was the nephew of Sally Harrison James, my GGGM. The father of David and Edd was Frank Harrison and there was also an Uncle John Harrison(Frank's brother). The MOTHER of David and Edd was Sarah Turner who had a sister Patty Turner and brothers Ed and John(John was married to Nina Harrison........who she was I don't know). The grandparents of David and Edd Harrison were David Turner(b 1812 d 1896) and Malinda Adams Turner. Now to bring in the Jameses. Benjamin Allen James(the one the family called "Allen")was married to Patty Turner who, if you will remember, was the aunt of David and Edd Harrison. This made David and Edd the nephews of both Sally Harrison(my GGGM) and Sally's daughter-in-law Patty Turner(wife of Allen James). Now for more details on the James/Turner connection. James James(my GGGF)had a brother Mark A. James whose wife was Angelina Adams who was a sister to Malinda Turner......the maternal grandmother of David and Edd Harrison(the original two old gentlemen I mentioned). The Adams sisters, Angelina James and Malinda Turner, both attended Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC.....just a little sideline if you have an interest. I realize this is not written down in concise genealogical charts, but this is the way the information was written down over forty years ago. If you read it three or four times maybe it will make sense. Boice Burns
Betty, I don't have anything on an Ambrose but I do have a little bit on Randall Bull and Balaam Bull and their families. Dan
Those Bull names don't sound familiar to me but I will check my data closely. Betty
You will have to find some one locally who lives in the Halifax area to do this for you as the marriage abstracts do not have all of the details that are found on the marrage certificates. Also the 1880 census have not been abstracted into book form either. You can order these census records from your local LDS library at a very little expense. Becky

Forrest, The Hawkins Bible records, and the other documents you mentioned sharing from your files ARE of great interest to all of us. As an NCGenWeb Archives file manager for several northeastern NC counties, I would be delighted to help you find good places to share those resources! Halifax has GenConnect boards on which you post your various transcriptions yourself, and/or I can see that the records get posted on the appropriate Archives web page as well. Our part of the state is the oldest, and research here is important to more than one of our current counties, so if you can't decide which county board to contribute to, please don't hestitate to ask for help and advice. Halifax Co. is also lucky to have John Godwin hosting its NCGenWeb County website now. He and I are working together to encourage all our mail list members and website visitors to join forces and build some really impressive on-line resources. Obviously, we need your help--sharing is what it's all about. The more search engines we can place your contributions in the path of, the better! We like, of course, to have your permission and your sources stated in all your postings. The only caution I would offer in sharing is that we all avoid posting copyrighted material without the owner's permission. Forrest, and all of you, just shout and we're here to assist. Access to the Halifax boards is reached easily thru the Halifax Co. website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nchalifa/ --just go to the "Resources" page! While you're there, look around at the good start we've made. The Halifax Archives needs alot of help--there's a link to that page from the same Resources page mentioned above. Thank you for offering! Hoping to hear more... Do you have any Marlow's connected with the families in Halifax? Joseph, James, or Albert,Rosa? ----- Original Message ----- From: Vafdking@aol.com To: NCHALIFA-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, September 13, 1999 6:59 AM Subject: [NCHALIFA] Hawkins Bible Records and mention of Norfleet I have some Bible records copied from the Halifax Library that may mean something to me if I can make the connection. There are more records in my possession than I have listed below so if someone is interested, I can provide more detail. My interest in the Hawkins family is because I descend from Isham Hawkins who died in Halifax in 1817. The name Wyatt shows up in the family and so I was curious about these Bible records. There are middle names of Davis, Reddin, and Norfleet mentioned. Children of Wyatt Hawkins and wife Martha: Richard Davis Hawkins born 9 Mar 1822 William Elah Hawkins born 15 Jun 1824 Howell Reddin Hawkins born 11 May 1827 Margaret Anmariah Hawkins born 19 Dec 1829 Wyatt Hawkins Jr. born 7 Aug 1831 Frances Rebecca Hawkins born 20 Mar 1834 Ambrose Hawkins 5 Apr 1836 Louisa Norfleet Hawkins born 11 Nov 1838 Martha Mary Elizabeth Hawkins born 23 Jul 1840 It appears that Wyatt Hawkins or his father moved to Halifax County from Warren County.
