    1. [NCHALIFA] Halifax estates
    2. I have read, I believe in Gammon's book of Halifax Estates, about three men being ordered to settle the estate of John Brickell. He d. 1789, and in 1801, this still has not been settled. Can anyone tell me how I would find out when it was settled, as the courthouse will not trace those happenings for anyone. Thanks for any suggestions as to how I might find this. Marcia Bourdeau

    3. I was detoured into Halifax County this afternoon, from Louisburg to Red Oak and found a Pearce Church. It was on Hwy 43 and the name was longer that just Pearce Church but in the anxiety of detours and flooded roads I did not write the name and I only remember Pearce Church. I will try to get the complete name if I can get back to that section later. Pat Nelson nels095@ibm.net

    2. Norvill, did I tell you I also checked the deeds up to 1824, and there wasn't a mention of the Pierce's Church in them? I can tell you that there were lots of small churches around in the area which just didn't make it after several years or into the 1900s anyway, but your did as you will see below. While reading the old newspapers --THE NEWS REPORTER---I read about lots of small old churches that I have never run across before, nor since. What happened to them who know, but most joined up with other churches in the early 1900s. Now, here is something that I have found on your church. No much, but it did exist and here are the years it did: FROM BRANSON'S NC BUSINESS DIRECTORY-- the HALIFAX CO., NC section 1867/8--Pierce's Chapel, Meth. Halifax Co., NC, W. C. Gammon was the minister. He was also the Minister of 10 other Methodist churches in the area, so that tells you they had to be kind of small. 1877/8 Minister was J. W. Wheeler 1884 minister, was J.M.Lumley 1896 minister was H. M. Jackson Well, that is as far as I go on these Halifax Churches. You might want to write to the Methodist Church in NC and see if they have anything on this Church. There is a district office in Raleigh, NC. It was still in operation by 1900-7, but I don't have the ministers during those years. It might have been in existence longer also. Hope this gives you some idea of what kind of church it was anyway. Becky

    2. Hello Dan, In your Bull/Sullivan lines, do you have a Robert Bull married to a Susannah Sullivan 1811? If so, was Susannah married before. Old family records show her a Campbell but marriage records show her to be a Sullivan. Robert was the son of Ambrose and Elizabeth Bull. I would also like the names of Elizabeth's parents. Any help would be appreciated. Betty
