There is a Fishing Creek in Mecklenburg Co., NC which flows into York Co., SC.
Never thought I would see anyone interested in Fishing Creek. I don't know the origin, although I should as much time as I spent on it as a kid. I know there are 2 and they ran together not far from where I lived. The "forks" were a popular place to fish. Only way to get there was thru someone's farm and thru the woods, about 2 miles off the nearest road. Bobby Moore killed a deer at the forks once. Glenn
Fishing creek today is partially the border between Nash and Halifax County. I grew up about 1/4 mile from it and spent many hours roaming and fishing it. There are really two, Big Fishing and Little Fishing. They run together near where I lived. There are no towns nearby. It is abut 10 miles from Red Oak, NC, near Salem community. I would have to see a map to identify which border it is on, but I think it is the northern border of Nash and southern of Halifax. Glenn
WOW !! Thanks for all the responses on Fishing Creek. Given the proximity to Halifax County, it looks like it will be worthwhile to pursue some of the naming similarities in the Boykin and Hale families. This might be a great clue -- or another wild goose chase !! :>)) Will let you all know how this turns out. Thanks again for all your responses. John Hale Falls Church, VA
John, there is a Fishing Creek that separates Halifax County from Nash County. When looking at that area of NC, keep in mind that Nash was created from Edgecombe in 1777; Halifax from Edgecombe in 1759; and Edgecombe from Bertie in 1741. So, anyone living along the Fishing Creek could have been in any of those counties, depending on the date of residence. Danny Bunn
If there is anything I didn't answer about the creek or you want more specific information I maybe can tell you some more.
Fishing Creek covers a lot of territory. The best place to start is the southern border of Halifax Co. The border is actually drawn on the creek for a few miles and many road maps will show it. It starts somewhere in the northwest of Halifax co. and eventually emties into the Tar river.
Hi List, This is a long shot in the dark, but has anyone heard of a Fishing Creek in Halifax County or immediate vicinity ?? A Boykin family with some names similar to my Hale line from Halifax County had 100 acres of land on Fishing Creek, NC. My Boykin contact has no idea where in NC this Fishing Creek is located. Anybody have any ideas ?? Thanks, John Hale Falls Church, VA

In an 1850 census index there is a Rebecca King listed, age 30, born in Halifax Co. I am looking for Rebecca E. King, born about 1850.

Patti: The phrase "died intestate" simply means that the person died without a will. The probate court will then have to appoint an administrator to handle the disposition of the deceased's estate. It has nothing to do with whether or not the person died within a certain state. Norvill Jones
Are there any Daniels on this net? Payne Daniel
I missed the first post of this, sorry if I'm asking something that was already stated. Is the William Porter named here the one that was married to Mary Sullivan, daughter of William SULLIVAN and Patsy ? BRANTLEY? If so, I am really interested in finding out more, especially about the BENTON fellow mentioned. I have been struggling with that name since I started doing research on Jeremiah SULLIVAN. According to the estate documents, a man named Jessie BENTON had inherited land from Jeremiah. I have found no connections to the BENTONS and the SULLIVANs. Does anyone know any more about these Bentons in Halifax. And again, is this William PORTER who married Mary SULLIVAN? Yes, intestate means they did not have a Will at the time of their death.
