I'm trying to find out some information on Elizabeth Rebecca Doggett (1831-1880) who married William Eaton Fenner (1827-1902) in Halifax County. They both are buried in the Methodist cemetery. She may have been from Tillery. I'd like to know her parents/ancestry if anyone has some information. Thanks! Molly
Hello All I have been experimenting with the RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project for several weeks. i have conclude that this is an excellent medium to publish, exchange, and compare information. I have uploaded my entire data base today. It has the ability to download gedcom files of any part of the main file which saves time and data entry errors. I hope many will join this effort and share your data. I would appreciate any corrections or additions to my file to improve the quality of my data. As I get many request for information, I have become more concerned about passing out old and incorrect data. This is a large file consisting of about 75000 names that I have added and received over the last five years from many sources. Thank You -- Best Regards And Have A Good Day, Jesse M. Hi, I am sure you have been wondering what happenned to Dick Howell. He had open heart surgery and has been in the hospital about a month. They discovered some of his food had been going down into his lungs. This causes lots of infection. The are now feeding him solid foods. He does expect to be home in about a week or 10 days, they now have him in rehab. He has been in three different hospitals. It truly is a wonder he is still with us. I am a long time family friend that lives down the street. He was worried about his e-mail and asked that I down load it for him. He had 815 messages. This will keep him busy when he returns. I am sending this to everyone in his address book. Henry
Anyone on the list researching these names....... WESTBROOK and/or MORGAN? Virginia
I am researching Westbrook, but I don't know of any Morgans. Mary in AL
Harvey Brown and MaryLou Dawson co-authored a 1989 book on the Harvey family that went to Tenn. This book goes into a great deal of detail on Rebecca Harvey Morgan's Halifax Co., NC Harvey family. He gives deeds, Wills and other proof and a genealogy of the family in his book. Harvey died in 1996. Mary Lou's address in 1990 and the one that is in the book if anyone is interested in getting a copy. Mary Lou Dawson 3000 Hwy 48 Cunningham, TN 37052 Phone--615-647-2171 I do not know if she is living still or not, but you might drop her a note or call her and see if she still have copies of this book. Dan, Thanks so much for your impressive web site and the information it contains on Rebecca Harvey. She did not marry a Morgaine. She married Joseph Morgan who was born in 1792 in North Carolina and died June 1864 in Dickson County, Tennessee. Rebecca and Joseph were married on November 18, 1813 in Montgomery County, TNN. The couple had 9 children. We have a copy of a document in which several slaves, inherited by Rebecca, were sold. Let me know if you want to go further down the Morgan chain. Now if I could just find out what county Joseph Morgan came from <smile>. Jason, I would be most interested in your HARVEY family. My greatgrandfather, Jesse Sherwood HARVEY lived and most likely was born in Halifax County, NC and married Mary Ann HAMLETT, who was definitely born in Halifax Co. in 1833. Jesse Sherwood HARVEY was born April 25, 1828. We have no record of his parents or siblings. The HAMLETT family moved to Hardeman Co., TN where Mary Ann and Jesse were married in 1855. Rebecca is a name that is handed down in our family. Jesse was in Hardeman County, TN in the 1850 census listed as Showood Harvey in the household of Whitmell New. After their marriage, Jesse and Mary Ann lived in Shelby County, TN and he was an overseer on the plantation of a Jamison. They traveled back and forth between TN and Drew Co., AR several times and were missed in the 1870 census. They ultimately lived in Selma, Drew Co., AR and died there. Any help in finding the family of either Jesse Sherwood Harvey or Mary Ann Hamlett would be greatly appreciated. Carolyn Haisty jhaisty@tcac.com
Greetings, I am seeking information on Rebecca Harvey who was born in 1796 in Halifax County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of William Harvey and Nancy Harvey but I do not know where they were from or have any further information on them. Rebecca moved to Montgomery County, TNN and on November 18, 1813 she married Joseph Morgan who was also born (somewhere unknown) in North Carolina in 1792. I have lots of information on the descendants and am very willing to trade. Thank you, Jason Canon
The Civil War Archive http://www.civilwararchive.com/files.htm This is a developing site, very good one.
I am researching Henry Holt of Halifax Co. His children: Hannah, Harmon, Elizabeth and Sally were born 1770-1800 Any information is appreciated. Doris Christian

My G- grandmother was Rebecca King, b. 1849 and married Benjamin Robert Powell in Halifax Cty. Her mother was Susan E. King. From the 1870 census, Susan was 45 years old. Susan appears to be listed as the head of household, with Rebecca, age 21, Isaac age 18, and Lucie age16. Unable to find which King that Susan married. The King bible lists William, Rufus, and Edward b. about 1812.
I'm looking for information on my GGG grandparents: Gardner HOOD b:1799, in Amelia County,VA. Parents maybe Thomas HOOD & Martha GARDNER. Gardner HOOD married Rebecca KING in 1824 in Halifax County,North Carolina. They had several children, and several were born in Halifax County.N.C. If anyone has even a possible connection,I'd be interested in seeing if there's a match to this family!! Gardner & Rebecca eventually moved to Carroll County,MS. If anything looks familiar please contact me!!Thanks,Nancy
Good evening Margaret I read your query dated 11/21/98 in which you listed Generation 1 of your Whitaker family. I do not know if I am connected to you or not but would like to ask a couple of questions. You listed a HUDSON WHITAKER and his son SAMUEL WHITAKER who married Margaret Young. I have a Young Hudson who married a Whitaker in Surry Co NC. According to his Civil War application Young Hudson was born in Halifax Co. in 1809. The copy I received was very faint and I could not determine if it was VA or NC., however, his grandson, Robert, went to Halifax Co NC when his mother died in 1886 when he was 7 years of age. I have been unable to determine who he stayed with at that time. My questions are: Are the Halifax Co WHITAKERs associated with the Surry Co WHITAKERs? Do you know where the Hudson came from in the name of Hudson Whitaker? TIA Bea Hudson

Dear fellow Halifax researchers, I am working on my Carpenter line. Just to update, I believe that I have proven by a preponderence of evidence that the Mary Carpenter listed as a daughter of William Reeves (Sr) in his 1751 will in Granville was married to William Carpenter, Sr. It has to do with the land transactions of James Reeves (Mary's brother), John Eelbank, John and Joseph Montfort, and William Carpenter (Sr). However, to establish this I am platting out the early deeds with much difficulty as I do not have access to the original warrant/grant in the archives since I live in Dallas. I plan to go to Raleigh in September, but I am hoping someone on this mailing list can help me. 1. Does anyone know of a plat map covering Edgecombe 1733 to the creation of Halifax County of 1759 then to about 1790? 2. Could someone go to the archives and look up about 4 or five plat envelopes. They are really neat as some have the original map drawn by the surveyor! 3. Does anyone on their own have a plat map drawn out for the little Quankey and Great Quankey Creeks? I am more than willing to pay for costs and as far as the archive a look up fee. Some of the names around the Carpenter at this time were Reeves, Hicks, Whitmel, Woods, McCulloch, Eelbank, Montfort, Powell. Thanks Louis Carpenter
