This is my first query on this list. I have a very elusive JAMES family right over the state line in Southampton County, VA. They lived four miles from the NC state line and I have long wondered if they did not have dealings in NC. There were two men of mystery. The first was my GGGF James James whose birth and death date and place is unknown. The second was his son, my GGF James Edwin James. In 1838 my GGGF James James in Southampton County, VA married Sarah "Sally" Harrison b 1821 VA dau of Catherine C. "Kate" Harrison b 1800 VA. It appears that by 1851 both these women were widowed. The children of Sarah Harrison James were: Nathaniel T. b 1840 VA, Benjamin Allen b 1843 VA and Joshua Cummins b 1846 NC. The only statistic we have on my GGF James James, the younger, is from his marriage certificate which indicates he was b 1845. For some strange reason he did not live with the rest of the family. Could he have been illegitimate? Could he possibly have been his father's son by an earlier marriage? His supposed birth date could be wrong. The children of Catherine Harrison(Sarah's siblings)were: Allen J.b 1823, Hannah A. b 1825, Andrew J. b 1828, Elizabeth H. b 1832, and Benfon(Benson?)F. b 1836 all born in VA. These families were closely allied with the TURNER family in VA. One interesting old family story is that the James family owned an oyster bed but I have never been able to make anything of it. If anyone knows of any of these people, any information would be gratefully accepted. Boice Burns Houston, TX

Looking for proof that the John BRICKELL, who died in Halifax Co, NC, might be the same one who married Eliza HUDSON in 1775, Norfolk Co, VA. This is the only information I have on this lady, and would greatly appreciate any help! If I could even disprove the theory, that would be a step forward. Would like to know if there is a death record for Eliza, probably before 1780. Thanks so much, Marcia Bourdeau
Seeking information on John Park d.1766 Halifax Co.,NC. His sons were John, William, Moses, and Joseph. Need info on son Moses Park. This Moses may have died in Franklin Co.,NC (1797). I believe that I'm descended from one of Moses' sons. Then, the next generation would be my Moses Parks b.1793 Nash County d.1868 Fayette Co.,TN. Would appreciate hearing from anyone with any information on this family. Thanks. Kay Hudson, TENNISKAY@aol.com
I am looking for anyone connected to the HARRISON ancestors that lived in Halifax Co., N. C. in 1790. Gideon Harrison b-abt 1762 -70 lived near Clarks Ferry along the Roanoke River and had a wife, not sure of her name. Jesse Harrison b-1756 lived around Kehuchy Swamp and had a wife named Mary Pair (Pare) whose father was Bythel Pair and mother Anny. Elisha Harrison was on the tax list of 1783. He married Winnie Pair sister to Mary and lived around Gum Branch and Harris' Branch. Their children were: Jansey who married a Wooten, Rebecca married a Tucker, Edward Harrison and Mary Harrison. Elisha died between 1797 and 1804. Winnie married a Davis second and lived in Nash County, N. C. Known children of Jesse were: Turner, Jesse, Jr., Mary Polly, Martha Patsy, and Blake Baker Harrison. Know children of Gideon were: Henry, James, Winnie and Nancy. Gideon and Jesse moved to Davidson Co., N. C. about 1818. Gideon was in Gibson Co., TN. in 1830. Would like to hear from anyone that is familiar with these people. Gideon is my ggg grandfather. Thanks, Peggy Harrison-Chaney

BEA, It interest me greatly, I do very much appreciate any and all info. shared with me. I have been researching my RAWLS for over 15 years now and have thousands of individuals in my files. I am writing a book on the family from GEORGE RAWLES who cameto AMERICA in 1635. I have circumstantial evidence from REV. GABRIEL RAWLS to LUKE RAWLS that died abt 4 MARCH 1752, then from LUKE RAWLS to WILLIAM RAWLS (RALLS) on some documents and then solid from WILLIAM to GEORGE RAWLES, {JR.} THEN CAPT. GEORGE RAWLES. It is said that the WILLIAM RAWLS of HALIFAX CO.,NC. was one of three brothers who came to america abt. 1735. These three brotherswere supposed to be WILLIAM,PHILIP & BASHER RAWLS. These three can be found on HALIFAX CO., NC. records. What interest me is that both WILLIAM & LUKE RAWLS of NANSEMOND CO., VIRGINIA later of NORTHAMPTON & EDGECOMBE CO., NC. also were on land records abt. 1737 , WILLIAM RALLS before. There were so many RAWLS coming in to AMERICA in those years and all settling in that part of VIRGINIA & NORTH CAROLINA, {most likely cousins from ENGLAND }, then naming there children JOHN, WILLIAM, MARY, ELIZABETH, that when they left records it takes some doing to sort them out. I want to sort them out and need desperatly to get the HALIFAX CO., RAWLS, not only to seperate the families but to help others of that line who have been so kind in sharing their info. thanks BOBBY RAWLS 100 N. Dear Flossy: Thanks for the info on the Brickell and Merritt family in the 1850 census. I really needed a little earlier, as my Sharack Merritt, died in 1832. Nancy Brickell, in 1850 must not be mine, as mine would be over 100 years old by then. Thanks for answering. If you have an earlier census, such as 1800, 1810, 1820 or 1830, I would really appreciate knowing about these two people. Marcia
