    1. [NCGUILFO-L] Re: Nathan Reid(Reed) born 1763, Guilford Co. NC?

    3. Dear Tom, I have been trying to research the North Carolina Reeds of Guilford and Rowan, without any luck at all. My gggrandmother was JULIA ANN REED (b.1823-25), parents unknown. She in 1843 married ABNER PACE (b.1821) in Guilford Co., and they moved to Rowan Co., where their only child was born--JOHN FLETCHER PACE (1844-1901Salisbury). Julia Ann may have had a sister/mother named CATHERINE REED, for she lived with Julia Ann and Abner Pace for a short time. In Oct 1856 ABNER PACE was bondsman for the marriage of WILLIAM E. C. REED and SUSAN BEVINGS/BEVINS/BIVINS in Rowan Co., and I have always thought there was a connection between the groom and Abner's wife JULIA ANN REED, now living in Rowan, as were the bride's parents The Heritage Book of Rowan Co. (Article #265, p. 224) was on the BIVINS family of Rowan, and this article said that Susanne "Sue" Bivins (1829-1887) ,married WILLIAM EMORY REID (1823-?) in 1856. She was buried in Liberty Churchyard, Davie County, so I suppose that is where they lived after marrying. The article also said that the parents of the groom were NATHAN and MARY (COTTRELL) REID, married 26 Oct. 1833 in Guilford. The children of Sue and William Reid were: Mary Josephine (1858-?), who married David Granger; Nathan W. (1860-1862); and William (no dates) who married Kate Moore. Given the dates, I wondered if Nathan Reed (m. 1833) could possibly be the brother of my JULIA ANN REED, and the groom her nephew, or some close relative. The Reed/Reid spelling is not significant I think. I have put postings on this Bevins-Reed tie on the mailings lists of Rowan and Guilford, and all over the internet. I even wrote to the author of the article in the "Heritage of Rowan Co." (Marilyn L. Bivins), but received no reply (letter April 1999). This book gave her address in Florida, but the Heritage book was published in 1991 and I feared that she no longer lived at the address given. My letter was not returned to me, and I have no idea how to contact her to ask for further information. I have recently joined the Rowan Co. Genealogy Society and I am hoping that she is still a member of that organization and I can get a better address. I would love to hear from you if you know about this Reed/Reid family, plus anyone else who might have information. I can't find a Perry Co. in North Carolina. Would it have been in Alabama?
