    1. [NCGUILFO-L] Re: Nathan Reid(Reed) born 1763, Guilford Co. NC?
    2. Betty A. Pace
    3. Dear James, I am the one who knows the least about my Reed/Reid family. My gggrandmother was JULIA ANN REED (census reports place her date of birth from 1823-1830). She was married in 1843 to ABNER PACE (B.1821) in Guilford Co., NC. I have been unable to find anything at all on her family, even with the help of a professional genealogist in Guilford Co. I think you read my message about Abner Pace being the bondsman (and I think that means a close connection) for the marriage of Sue Bevins and William Emory C. Reid in 1856 in Rowan Co. I believe Julia Ann is connected to this William Reid, whose father was Nathan Reed, mother Mary (Cottrell) of Guilford, who had been married in 1833. At one point (1870 Rowan Co.NC census) was a Catherine Reed, sister in law to Abner, thus sister to Julia Ann, and she was living with them. I was reading from the handwritten census and thought it read Catherine. The later typed version identified this same person as M. C. Reed, sister-in-law, younger than Julia by about 6 years. Abner Pace, by the way, was orphaned and apprenticed at age 16 to saddlemakers Hiatt & Jean in Guilford in 1837. I was beginning to think that perhaps Julia Ann Reed was an orphan also. I am told that Nathan and William were oft repeated names in the Reid/Reed family. The article in the "Heritage Book of Perry Co.ALA" identifies that Nathan as having a wife named Jennett but gives no last name. I note that when this Nathan moved to Alabama, he went with his sons in law, not his sons, who are not mentioned. Perhaps Tom (TCozz57795@aol.com) can give you more information. I have included him as CC on this message, because he has more information than I do. I have forwarded my reply to him to both the Rowan and Guilford mailing list and I don't know which one you are on. I will now forward your message to both since someone there might be able to help you. I did take out your mailing address from your message, although I still have it. Let me know if you can figure a tie to my Julia Ann or to the marriage of William Emory C. Reid that Abner Pace was bondsman for.
