I need help to try to pinpoint the location of land for a deed made in Orange Co NC 11 Jun 1754 to John WOOD from the Right Honorable John Earl Granville. This was for 600 acres located on Stone's Creek. This land was sold one year later with date of 10 Jun 1755 from John WOOD to Gilbert STREAN (STRAHORN?). John WOOD's wife Sarah relinquished her dower. Question: In what present-day county is Stone's Creek located? Has it been renamed? With the help of the USGS web site, I can find only three creeks by the name of Stone or Stones currently in North Carolina. The three are located in Onslow County, Johnston County, and Rutherford County. I don't believe either of those three counties were ever part of Orange County where this land was first granted. Can anyone help me determine where this John WOOD & wife Sarah lived? Thank you. Imogene Bennett Springfield, MO ibennett@mail.orion.org
