    1. RE: [NCGUILFO-L] Buffalo Presbyterian Church

    3. Louise, I had a book in my hands just this last weekend at our local library that listed the KNOWN graves at the Buffalo Presbyterian Church Cemetery, so, yes, there is something in print. Most of the graves that I saw listed dated from the mid-1800's. But, I was disappointed to learn that many of the very early graves have been "lost" (markers destroyed, vandalized, etc., or the markers were of fieldstone and did not weather the years). In the book it explained that at one point early in this century, the decision was made to "clean out" all the old stones, and they were merely dumped over the cemetery wall. Apparently in the early days there was no organization to the burials; anyone could bury a relative wherever they wanted within the cemetery. If I read correctly, this lack of organization means that the church did not keep a master map or plot of the graves. And so it all comes down to the fact that if the marker was not readable when the cemetery survey was taken, then the grave is lost. I think two of my ancestors and their families fell into this void. Maybe, though, you will be luckier. I believe it possible that some of my ancestors are buried there. I am specifically looking for Daniel DONNELL, Sr and his parents, Robin DONNELL and wife. These people would have been among the earliest members of the Buffalo Church. Thanks, Louise Donnell _____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
