Ms. Overton: In Jan 1858 NANCY WALLS married YOUNG PACE in Mecklenburg Co. I have been trying there to find out more about her but without results. It never occurred to me that her family might have been from Guilford, which is also where YOUNG PACE originated. YOUNG PACE (abt 1834-?1898Meck.) was a carpenter in Meck., having served an apprenticeship bond in Guilford, beginning in 1847 when he was apprenticed as an orphan age 13 to saddlemaker Jonathan Armfield. In 1850 he was again apprenticed to cabinet maker Isaac Armfield of Guilford. I believe that this occurred near the Oak Ridge Township, but I am not certain of that. There were other orphan Paces apprenticed in this same time frame. In the 1870 Census for Meck., Young Pace and Nancy Walls Pace had children named Charles, Abner, Gussi(male), and Anamia?(male). I took this from a handwritten census and I am not sure of the spelling on the last two names. They lived next door to NEEDHAM PACE and his wife MARY/MARGARET MYERS PACE, and I believe they were brothers, or at least cousins with a close relationship as both had been apprenticed in Guilford as orphans, as had my own gggrandfather ABNER PACE (1821-1900Rowan). Living with both Needham Pace and Young Pace at one time or another was an elderly ZILPHA/ZELTHA PACE, with her "idiotic" son DAVID PACE. She may have been a mother, grandmother, or aunt of these Paces, all originating in Guilford in the 1830's or before. Her name does appear in the 1840 Guilford census as the head of the household, with numbers of minor children. The apprentice bonds of none of these Paces gives the names of their parents, nor do the bonds specify whether they were total orphans or only that the father was dead. I know that the names your posting gave were WALL not WALLS, but I also don't know that the family didn't sometimes use the extra S on their name. I would appreciate sharing information with you if you can see a connection.
