Is anyone researching the Millis family of Guilford County? Barring that, could anyone assist me with a look-up in the 1840 Guilford census (see below)? I've done an awful lot of work pulling together what I can about the many Millises who lived in Guilford, using various printed and original sources and will be happy to share what I can. My dead end here is John Millis. He was apprenticed as a tanner at the age of 19 (and as an "orphan") on May 19, 1831 in Guilford County. Date of birth is given as Oct 25, 1812. He married Caroline Gardner on November 21, 1835, across the county line in Randolph County. About 1841 he left North Carolina for Mississippi. I have been unable to identify his parents or connect him in anyway with any of the numerous Millises in Guilford during this time. He should be in the 1840 Guilford census, and I do find in the index to that census reference to a John Millis. He is supposed to be on page 225 of the original census. If anyone out there has a copy of the census, could you please assist me with a lookup of the data relating to this John? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
