Hi Cindy, I believe what you are referring to is the Nottingham Colony. This is a quote from the Guilford Genealogist 12 (Winter 1985): 36 "The Nottingham Colony was a group of people who came to the area from the Nottingham Presbyterian Church in Rising Sun, Lancaster County, PA (when a new survey was made there in 1767, Rising Sun was located in Maryland). Even though there were 33 sections of land laid out, only 26 sections can be accounted for with 21 family members moving on to this land by December 1753. These family heads were James Barr Thomas Beals George Black Walter Carruth* John Cummings John Cunningham Robert Donnell Thomas Donnell Hugh Foster John McClintock James McQuiston Robert McQuiston Thomas McQuiston William Mebane* Adam Mitchell Robert Mitchell John Nicks Robert Rankin Samuel Scott Andrew Wilson *probably Colony Members" The land they received were Granville Land Grants. See "The Granville District of North Carolina 1748-1763" abstracted by Margaret M. Hofmann for these grants. Rick Saunders Salt Lake City, UT
