I am searching for information regarding the Weeks or Wicks or Wix family in Guilford County, North Carolina. My ancestor was MARY POLLY WEEKS who married William Volner in 1817 in Sumner County, Tennessee. Her son stated on his Eastern Cherokee Application taken in 1906-8 (claimed through the Volner side) that she was born in ca 1800-1 at "Guilford Courthouse". In another place he says she was born in Pennsylvania. The census records for Mary Polly Weeks indicate that she was born in North Carolina. She was the daughter of either JOHN WEEKS/WICKS/WIX or of DANIEL WEEKS/WIX/WICKS whose widow was ELIZABETH. Daniel Weeks and John Weeks were in Sumner County, TN by 1816 and Daniel appears to have died ca 1828 when his widow ELIZABETH WIX was taxed for his 22 acres of land. An Edmund or Edward Williams somehow had claim to this land also. I haven't figured out yet how. Descendents of this family who still reside in the area spell the name as "WIX". Was this DANIEL WIX the same DANIEL WICKS who married ELIZABETH WEITZEL on 23 Feb 1779 in GUILFORD COUNTY, NC at the Brick Church? Elizabeth's father was Henrich Wetzel. Does anyone have any information regarding this Daniel and Elizabeth WICKS/WIX? Is this the same DAniel WEEKS who bought land from JONATHAN SUMMERS in ORANGE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA on the south side of the Haw River on the bank of Reedy Fork on 23 September 1799? This deed was proven in May Term 1803 and delivered to Freeland Sutton. The Summers and Sutton families were living in Sumner County, TN. The Suttons intermarried with the WEEKS family in TN. This DANIEL WEEKS sold part of this land in 1802 to MICHAEL COCKLEDRESS. A Cockledress family also was living in Sumner County, Tennessee in the same district as the WEEKS/WIX family. My JOhn and Daniel Weeks of Sumner County also were involved with the SMOTHERS family of Sumner County, Tennessee who had come from Orange County, NC. Bondsman for Mary Polly Weeks marriage was ELI SMOTHERS. Is anyone working on any of the families?
