Greetings from beautiful Austin, TX. The DONNELLs went to the Guilford Co area around 1750-1760 from the York, PA area where they had lived for a time after coming from northern Ireland. The first to come were Thomas Donnell, his brother Robert and their nephew Robert II (Robin). They came with the help of the Nottingham Society, a Presbyterian Church organization (suggested that it was the Nottinghan congregation, but I don't know where). The lands they acquired were part of the grants to Lord Granville. It helps if you can access either of two books by the Rev. Samuel Rankin. One is a history of the Buffalo Creek Presbyterian Church, the other a genealogy of the Rankin and Donnell families. I have seen the latter book at the St. Louis Public Lib'y genealogy room. I have never seen a copy of the former. perhaps you will have better luck than I!! Also, try reaching the Guilford Co Genealogical Society. There is a Raymond Donnell who has a great deal of info plus other researcher on that time period.
