Anyone know anything. From a Lancashire, England, mailing list. I know there were Fletchers in NC. --------- Begin forwarded message ---------- From: J&B Cuthbertson <cbreez@bellsouth.net> To: LANCSGEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: WRIGHT FLETCHER Date: Tue, 09 Mar 1999 09:19:18 -0500 I am new to this list. My name is James Cuthbertson. I was born in Ayrshire, Scotland and emigrated to the States as a child with my parents after the war. My wife and I now reside in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Being new to this list, I am uncertain as to how best pose the question that I have about the identity of a gentleman whose likeness appears on a bust that I recently acquired. About three years ago, I purchased a metal(Spelter) bust of a gentleman by the name of Wright Fletcher in Lexington, Virginia. His name and the name if the sculptor are inscribed on the reverse side of the bust along with the date, either 1877 or 1876. This gentleman may have been an attorney, legislator or a doctor since there are two letters after his name which are illegible. Whatever his life's work, he must have achieved some measure of success to warrant a bust on a pedestal. I recently received the following information from a researcher in Virginia that may be of help in identifying this gentleman. She indicate that a Wright Fletcher was baptised 25 May 1806 in St. George's, Unsworth, in Lancashire, England, s/o Joshua Fletcher and Ann Clayton. This family line is written up in an issue of the "Journal of Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society." (Aug 1988.) I don't know if this Wright Fletcher may have immigrated to the States. However, given the birth date and the date of the sculpture (the gentleman appears to be in his sixties) this may be the fellow that I am looking for. This is the only Wright Fletcher mentioned in eleven years of back issues of "Fletcher Family Research Bulletin." There is no Wright Fletcher mentioned in Edward H. Fletcher's genealogy of Robert Fletcher of Concord, Mass. I would appreciate any information about this gentleman and a little about his life. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
