Such things are tangible links which connect us with the dear old people of generations past. This Exum and Catherine Elliott were also my great-great grandparents, their son Issac being by ancestor. Issac Elliott married Rachel Overman in the year 1818 and entered government land in Grant county in 1828, where the national military home is now located. The brick house they built in later life now forms a part of the builings there. "Rachel Overman Elliott was the daughter of Ephraim and Rachel Small Overman, also residents of Wayne county. Ephraim wwas a member of the territorial Legislature, also a member of the first state Legislature. These people were all of sterling character and my mother, who passed away last December at the age of 92, told me many notable incidents in the lives of Isaac and Rachel Elliott. They reared a large family and at various times took into their home grandchildren, nephews and others and sent them to school. They held a high standard in both religion and education. Isaac Elliott died in 1871 and Rachel followed in 1873. I have in my possession and prize highly their pictures and the pictures of some of their children.
