My Hopkins family was in Orange County NC but their place of residence dating from about 1755 (on Deep River in the former Sandy Creek Community) fell into Guilford County when that county was formed 1771. When Randolph Co. was formed from Guilford in 1779, this area where my family lived fell into Randolph County, which had been formed from the southern one/third of Guilford Co. So my family was in Guilford County for about eight years. Does anybody know whether what remains of the the deed records, tax lists, and court minutes records applicable to the Sandy Creek community during those eight years (1771-1779) would have remained at the courthouse in Guilford Co. when Randolph was formed or whether the records covering areas transferred to Randolph would have been transferred to Randolph? I'd like comments on this from knowledgeable persons so I can determine whether a visit to the Guilford courthouse for research of records might be productive in turning up additional information concerning my Hopkins and allied families.
