There is a Thomas Gossett on that same page of the census. Deeds can be helpful. There were a lot of Brown families in the area, but there was only one Gossett family in the county in the early years, so that's an easier angle to try. Any Brown mentioned in a Gossett deed is likely to be the right one. This is the closest association of Gossett and Brown that I could find to the date of 1810. If you research the deeds that mention James Brown and plat the land, you may be able to figure out if he's the right man. I've just taken one stab at it.
