    1. [NCGUILFO] ROLL CALL - PACE, REED, MINER
    2. Betty A. Pace
    3. My ancestor was ABNER PACE, 16 years old in 1837 when named an apprentice orphan to saddlemakers Hiatt & Jean in Guilford Co., NC; thus he was born around 1821-23. Other orphan Paces apprenticed in the same time frame were: Needham, Young, Absalom, Wiseman, Geo. Washington (called "Johnson), and Pace girls Lively and Edy. Associated with Needham and Young Pace was a Ziltha/Zelpha Pace (b. around 1800); around 1858 she went with Needham and Young Pace to Mecklenburg Co., NC, along with her retarded son David Pace. I do not know what the relationship was between these Paces, but I think the tie was a family one since Young Pace named one of his sons Abner Pace. In 1843 ABNER PACE married JULIA ANN REED (b. around 1823-25) in Guilford Co. They immediately moved to Rowan Co., where they had a son named JOHN FLETCHER PACE (1844-1901). When Abner and Julia Ann were married, the bondsman at their wedding was a Richard Miner (could be misspelled). I do not know the relationship between bride and groom and Mr. Miner. I am interested in finding the names of the parents of my orphan ABNER PACE and his wife JULIA ANN REED. Julia Ann Reed had a young sister (CATHERINE or M. C. CATHERINE REED) born about 1830; she lived with them in Rowan Co., NC at the time of the 1870 census.
