NC Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Guilford?read=1357 Surname: TALLEY, WRIGHT ------------------------- Through much research, I have found Obediah TALLEY's father and Grandfather's names! Here is my line; 1. Nicholas TALLEY born 1730 in Louisa Co., VA Wife; Mary My GreatGreatGreatGreatGrandparents. 2. John TALLEY born 1767 in NC., Wife; Janey EAKES. My GreatGreatGreatGrandparents. 3. Obediah D. TALLEY born July 29, 1805 in Guilford County, North Carolina. Wife (1)Sarah PARKER with whom he had ten children. (2) Mary M. EPLING. Obediah and Sarah were my GreatGreatGrandparents. 4. Andrew Jackson TALLEY born in 1835 in TN. Wife; Perneca. They had two sons. Andrew Sherman TALLEY born 1871, and William David TALLEY born July 17, 1876. Andrew and Perneca were my GreatGrandparents. 5. William David TALLEY born July 17, 1876; Wife; Mary Ida KELSEY born October 19, 1876. Both died in 1945. Their residence was in Neelyville, Mo. They were laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery near Doniphan, Mo. William and Mary were my Grandparents. I ordered and received two volumes of back-issues of the Guilford County Genealogical Society of North Carolina, and found a wealth of information on my TALLEY's. There was a lawsuit by a neighbor of John TALLEY's accusing his children and a son-in-law, Moses Henry WRIGHT of Assault and Riot, and two of John's daughters accused by the same neighbor of Assault and Battery. At the first trial, John's daughters, Elizabeth TALLEY WRIGHT and Mary TALLEY, were found guilty. But they took the case to the Superior Court, and the case was dismissed. The lawsuit concerning the TALLEY's and Moses WRIGHT was a long drawn out battle. In the end, the TALLEY's and Moses WRIGHT were found Not Guilty of any wrong. The cost of the lawsuit, what with bond money and other legal expenses, cost their father, John TALLEY to lose his 296 acre farm. Some list John as having died in North Carolina....but I would like to see a legal document on this, as I have found on census records and deed records in Allen County, KY., where a John TALLEY purchased land next to Obediah's-(His son).....and found him on census records next to him, as well. After Moses WRIGHT, his wife Elizabeth TALLEY WRIGHT and her sister, Mary left NC., they moved to Sullivan County, TN., and then moved and settled to Crawford County, Mo. This is really ironic, because I only live about 50 miles from where they lived and died! They are buried in these Cemeteries, just north of Cuba, Mo.-------WRIGHT's MILL CEMETERY------AND---- BURLEY CEMETERY. I have found two new cousins, one in Cuba, Missouri, and one in St. Peters, Mo., due to the information in the books from Guilford County, NC. Mary never married. There is a story handed down about her. When she was young, she had two suitors. She was told that she had to choose between them, so she chose. On her wedding day, the rejected suitor shot through a window and killed her intended husband. After her sister, Elizabeth died, Moses drew up a will leaving his estate to Mary until she married or upon her death. In his will, he referred to Mary as his "Beloved Sister-In-Law". If anyone has any more information on this TALLEY line, I would love to hear from you! I would love to know Nicholas TALLEY's parents and siblings!
