I have noticed that a DAVID SCHMIDT/SMITH is often included among SCHMIDT lines. However, it has struck me that the name David is not really German. I have only checked a few church records, but I haven't seen a David yet on the actual German records. Is there a German equivalent for the name David? For instance, in German the name John is actually Johann or Johannes. What is the German for David?
