Brown: "Greensboro's few houses still standing from the 1870's are all handsome and substantial. Most are constructed of brick, an uncommon residential building material locally until the 20th century. Their owners were enchanted by the same Italianate and Gothic Revival styles that had captivated their antebellum predecessors. William Fields, a tobacco merchant and small landholder, built a picturesque, one-and-one-half story brick dwelling on Arlington Street in Shieldstown in the late 1870's. Its T-plan, lancet-arched windows, and steeply pitched gables and dormers illustrate the domestic Gothic Revival style." A picture of the house is shown on page 23 of the same book. The house is for sale through the Olde Greensborough Preservation Society. If you would like more info, let me know.
