I have the 1850 Guilford census just now and noticed some are listed as laborers and others as hirelings. Can someone tell me the difference? I found a Guilford census index of surnames but is there an index of individuals for 1850? So far I have noticed 2 districts, the southern and the northern, does anyone know where the division line was. I haven't gone all the way thru the census yet so there may be others and I don't know about them yet.
