    2. I believe that they have discontinued that feature (online vital records), probably due to concern over identity theft. I am contacting them to find out if that feature still exists but is buried somewhere, but I can't locate it on my own. The trade-off, I guess, is the fact that they are digitizing their deeds and putting them online. Luckily, I had printed off the surnames I often investigate and have them in my files. If I find out that those records are still online, I'll send another message detailing how to access them. Of course, NC did not start requiring birth certificates and death certificates until 1913. They did allow the issue of "delayed birth certificates" for the purpose of claiming Social Security benefits, so you will find some of those. Not all marriage bonds survive, of course. And NC did not drop that form and start using marriage licenses until 1868.
