Does anyone know what is meant by General Hospital #6 in Goldsboro, N. C. My ggrandfather was discharged from the Confederate Army, Co. F, 2nd N. C. Cavalry (19 State Troops) on account of disability on 1 June 1862. His records go on to indicate that he died in General Hospital #6 on 28 June 1862. Does anyone know what happens to the dead soldiers that died in such facilities. If the families didn't claim the bodies, were they put in a "potter's field"? Were records kept to that effect?
