Dear Betty, I have David F. SMITH b. 1830 in Guilford Co,NC. He is the s/o Allen H. SMITH b. 1785 in Chatham Co. NC. I was wondering if Allen could have been the son of one of the Davids I have found in Chatham Co. I also found Peter SMITH in Chatham Co. at this time. I know what you mean about the SMITH name being hard to trace. My maiden name was SMITH also and of the top 4 most common names, I have 3 of them in my direct lines - SMITH, JONES and WILLIAMS.
