I am wondering if there is a connection to my own great-grandfather. He was Columbus Christopher Pitts, and his family lived in Guilford County (Guilford College) up until the 1880s, I believe. They migrated to an area that was, at that time, the Moravian town of Salem, where they were among the first families to establish an African/Native-American-Mulatto community (The Hill at Cross Creek Settlement, now "Happy Hill" in Winston-Salem). Columbus was a farmer. We have photos of him and, though I never knew him, he was apparently a tall, very proud, and distinguished-looking man, with VERY large hands (a feature that everyone who knew him always made mention of). His father's name was Major Pitts, but I'm unsure of his mother's name. Columbus married Annie, and their children were ! Walter, Ollie and Harry.
