Young, 55, of Browns Summit, departed from his earthly life Sunday evening, October 21, 2007, after a six-year courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, at New Bessemer Baptist Church with Pastor Don Clement officiating. Entombment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Born May 2, 1952, to the late Charles Henry Young, Jr. and Marion Williams Young in Guilford County, Mr. Young was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Page High School and attended Guilford Technical Institute for two years. He had been employed with Lorillard for 22 years. He was a loving and devoted husband and father who will be fondly remembered as a kind, easy going, encouraging, and supportive man. He always put others before himself and even through his illness was more concerned with his family than with himself. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid sports fan, but above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 32 years, Pam Mabe Young; his adoring daughter, Alison Young Smith and her husband, John Manly Smith; brother, Terry Young and his wife, Pat; mother and father-in-law, Ray and Betty Mabe; brothers-in-law and their wives, Randy Mabe and Karen, Ricky Mabe and Bett, and Ken Mabe; nephews, Bradley Young and Nick Mabe; and niece, Jennifer Mabe. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm St. Chapel. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Gary and Pam's co-workers at Lorillard and Replacements, Ltd., and to their many friends for their love, prayers, and support and to the compassionate folks at Moses Cone Regional Cancer Center and to Hospice and Palliative Care at Greensboro for their expert care. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405 or to New Bessemer Baptist Church, c/o the Building Fund, 4115 Hines Chapel Road, McLeansville, NC 27301.
