    1. Re: [NCGUILFO] marriage bond requests
    2. Steven, I can't find Marmaduke Mitchell in the grooms' index, or Mary Bradley Tupple/Tuttle in the brides' index. The closest thing I have is a Manfield Mitchell serving as bondsman for the marriage bond of Joab Mitchell and Ann Keter in 1828. Not every couple needed or obtained a marriage bond. It was a requirement only in certain circumstances. Check the Vital Records page on the website for further discussion on marriage bonds vs. banns, etc. _http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncguilfo/VitalRecords.html_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncguilfo/VitalRecords.html) If the couple were Quakers (I'm not saying these were), there were extremely few Quakers who used the marriage bonds until the middle decades of the 1800's. A marriage bond was one way to avoid the lengthy process of Quaker marriage procedures, and other denominational marriage banns, and that would have viewed with disapproval by the Quaker elders. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but it was rare when it did. You might also try adjoining counties, to see if there is a marriage bond in a nearby county. But there may not be a marriage bond for this couple at all, for any one of various reasons. Sorry.
