    2. I want to point out that there are some existing marriage licenses that pre-date 1868. The distinguishing characteristic is the difference in wording and the absence of a financial penalty. So there will be overlap. In other words, there can be both marriage bonds and marriage licenses from about 1851 to 1868, although it is much more common during those years to have marriage bonds than licenses. Still, with the documents being different in their characteristics, I hesitate to blend the two together.
