Pat Bailey's book on land grants in Guilford lists that grant for James Smith, but spells the Roudy name as Roddy. Either way, I don't see either that name or James Smith listed in the Fred Hughes map index that Bruce Pruitt did. But the Isaac Widdows name is listed, and that grant is shown as being in the extreme SW corner of Guilford, not near Buffalo Creek at all. The creek off Buffalo is actually shown as Mile Run Creek. I think the name confusion can be explained by the fact that I remember seeing the name "Mile Branch" in several places on a modern atlas of Guilford. It's a name that would be given to a fair number of creeks at the same time. What the "Mile Branch" in the Smith land grant is called now, you'd have to figure out. But the Isaac Widdows grant is shown as being near both Abbott's Creek and Hamby's Fork, and even fiarly close to the origins of Richland Creek. This is when learning land platting comes in handy. It may take looking at the other deeds for the other men to pin the location down. As for that external page with the index for the Hughes map, yes, unfortunately, it's down. And the index I have at home is copyrighted, so I'd have to get permission to set up a special page for that. Maybe Bruce will let me do that just for the Guilford ones. Either that, or I have to index it myself.
