During 1783 Isaac Shelby, Absalom Tatum, and Tnthony Bledsoe were sent ovr as Commissioners to reserve a large area of unclaimed land for Rev. War grants. NC, financially hard pressed, was paying its soldiers and officers in western land. Bledsoe's family came w/him and settled at Greenfield not fr from his brother's fort at Bledsoe's Lick. in P 42. With the Commissioners came a large party of guards to join many others on the Cumberland, and who not only participated in running the "Commissioners' Line" but also became in many cases permanent settlers. In addition to the three Commissioners, the party included such familiar names among others as James Robertson, Daniel Smith, Isaac Bledsoe, Kasper Mansker, Philamon Thomas, Elijah Robertson, Frederick Stump, Thomas Call, Andrew Castleman, William Davidison, William Loggins, Andrew Boyd, Patrick McCutchin, Samuel McCutchin, James McCutchin, James Hollis, Turner Williams, Sampson Williams, James Clendenning, Davis Frazier, Samuel Barton, Robert Brooks, Ephraim McClain, Jr, Julius Sanders, William Collinsworth, David Hay, James Todd, Thomas Spencer, Edward Cox, William Bradshaw, Nathaniel McClure, and "two named Shelby and three McMurrays."... The southern boundary of the land grant area was run again I 1784 by Gen. Griffith Rutherford and party Many of the same guards participated this time but a few new names are of record: Thomas Wright, John Hardin, Henry Rutherford, John Tate, William Polk, Ezekiel Polk, Ephraim McClain, Sr, and john Hibbets. Col. Anthony Bledsoe and capt.
