Hi everyone, I am looking for two things, does anyone know who this James Smith is and where is Mile Branch? This info is from a deed out of the Archives in Raleigh. James Smith file # 1956 Grant # 1930 24 Dec. 1798, issued 1799 8th of June Bk. # 101 page 168 60 acres; Know ye that we have granted James Smith 60 acres of land in Guilford County on both sides of the water of Mile Branch. Beginning at a maple, a corner of land belonging to Philip Roudy, running thence south 36 degrees. East eighty poles to a post oak, thence south twenty poles to a post oak, thence south 24 degrees thence east twenty six poles to a stake. Thence east sixteen poles to a stake in Isaac Widows line, thence along his line north eighty eight poles to his corner black oak. Thence along his line east twenty eight poles to a stone. Thence along Isaac Widows Junior's line north twentyone poles to a hickory, thence to the first station. To hold to the said James Smith, his heirs and assigns forever. Dated 8th day of June 1799..................Bob Smith
Looking at an early reproduction map by Fred Hughes, there is a Mile Run which is a branch of Buffalo Creek. I thought the Rootsweb site for Guilford Co had an index to this map, but that link appears to be not working for me. In any case, I don't see any Roudy or Smith names in the general vicinity of Mile Run on this map. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Smith" <rsmith1173@woh.rr.com> To: "NCGUILFO" <NCGUILFO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 09, 2007 12:49 PM Subject: [NCGUILFO] James Smith/ Mile Creek/Isaac Widows/Philip Roudy 1799 > Hi everyone, I am looking for two things, > does anyone know who this James Smith is and where is Mile Branch?
