    1. [NCGUILFO] CALLING ALL COUSINS DESCENDED FROM FAMILIES OF ROCKFORD, NORTH CAROLINA
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jn2tv4 Surnames: Norman, Holyfield, Bledsoe, Snow, Burrus, Wolfe, Polk, Dobson, many others. Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.guilford/4312/mb.ashx Message Board Post: GENEALOGY NEWS ALERT Contact: Susan Norman - 678-513-1951 - REMEMBERROCKFORD.COM - CALLING ALL COUSINS DESCENDED FROM FAMILIES OF ROCKFORD, NORTH CAROLINA - The Rockford Preservation Society has announced the launch of its 2007 Remember Rockford capital campaign. A major thrust of the campaign is for the village to reconnect with the descendants of families for whom Rockford is an ancestral home. "The campaign offers these descendants a real opportunity to preserve for future generations of their families their heritage and their home," says Ms. Hannah Holyfield, President of the society. "We are going to work with genealogical groups and with ancestry sites on the Internet to reach out to descendants who may have only minimal knowledge about their ancestors' lives here but would like to know more. We plan to contact these descendants and ask them to help us restore the village and then, literally, to come back home." The culmination of the "Remember Rockford" campaign will be a Remember Rockford Families Reunion to be held in 2009. The reunion date will be set in the coming months. Anyone with family ties to Rockford is encouraged to go to rememberrockford.com and register to receive news updates of planned events for the coming months. 3. Ms. Pat: Thank you for your reply. The lady in Oregon had the SOLO PRESS. She broke Alvas' book down into four books-one for Thos Totehyll1580, one for "Shipwreck" John 1610,one for Peter1660, and one for Henry 1506. Alva sold his book in 1968 for $25, and SOLO sold each one for $10. She did indeed advertise often in Evertons Helper. I subscribe to an on-line obit service, whereby I get a copy of an obit for every TUTTLE/TUTHILL/TOOTLE that passes in the USA. I have collected at least 50 for Tuttles in Goldsboro, Greensboro, Winston-Salem. None of these were listed in Alvas(or Solos) books. There must be someone somewhere that has cataloged these Tuttle families. Dig up what you can for me-It is appreciated. Greensboro, NC has a library with research, but it's been years since I was there and I found High Point to be more to my liking. Greensboro may be alot more accessible and have added more research tools than when I was researching there which must have been 20 years ago at least. Actual wills, deeds, etc. would probably be at the Courthouse in Greensboro, but I know High Point has them on the computer, but you might have to order original documents when working from High Point. Your Coble, Spoon and Greeson possibly could have been in the lower southeastern area of Guilford which could be Greene, Rock Creek or Clay. Greene borners both Randolph and Alamance Counties. Rock Creek is directly above Greene and Clay is on the west side of Greene. Coble could be found in Alamance, also. They were all formed out of the original Orange C! ounty, but Alamance did not come into being until 1849, I think. Guilford about 1771. Prior to Guilford, Orange Co. covered about 1/3 or so on the east side and Rowan Co. was the remainder. Randolph Co. was formed out of Guilford in 1776. Hopefully someone with more recent experience with the Greensboro Library will give you some hints. Good luck! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Is the Greensboro library the best for records. I have access to census records on Ancestry. Is there any clues to the locations in Guilford that the census took place. Townships are not mentioned in 1830. My Greesons and some allied families were in Morgan Co., IN in the 1840 census Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hello, I am looking for information on the wife of Andrew Morgan, Guilford Co. NC 1850. She was named Milly (Millicent maybe) and I believe she died bef. 1860 since that year another woman was listed as wife. Andrew Morgan was listed as from Ohio. Anyone know anything about this first wife. 2. Dear David, I for one am never offended by the reading of message where someone expresses kind thanks to another who most likely is a complete stranger. In a world full of so much rudeness it is a pleasant experience for me. However I have to disagree with the assumption that there is no value in these messages. In fact, there are times when the subject line will ring a bell for me, even though it did not mean anything to me at the time of the original posting. I work a little on my research on a daily basis and discover new clues or avenues for research. Last weeks useless information may be the one clue I need this week. All the same, I thank you for your input. You need not reply through the list or to me personally. I just felt the overwhelming need to share. Best Wishes with your research, Carol Clark ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
