Hey Nita, I lost your address when my computer crashed. I'm kinda a childhood friend. IWe have wrote before some time back. How have you been? I don't have Clara Lee's email address, it was also lost when my computer crashed. Wish I could find my childhood friend June Brown. She lived beside Clara Lee. If I remember correctly Clara Lee lived beside the Woods family. Would you by chance know the name of the man that lived in the Log Cabin? Well it is so good to see you on line. DNA testing has proven that I am related to these NICHOLS people from MD, and I believe that my branch were Nicholites who migrated to NC, and then on to Middle Tennessee, where my ggg-grandfather Benjamin NICHOL [b. 1769 in Dorchester Co., MD] appeared from "nowhere" circa 1796 and settled in Wilson Co. by 1810. There were other former Nicholite families in Wilson Co. by then, and Benjamin was a neighbor of Jacob SULLIVAN, who had lived in Guilford Co. and was also of the Maryland Nicholites. Who was Isaac NICHOLS, who bought this Guilford Co. land in 1796? The names Isaac, Benjamin, John and Joseph are strongly represented among MD NICHOLS folk, and I'm suspecting that this Isaac was s/o Benjamin NICOLLS of Dorchester Co. [he appeared on the 1783 county tax list], and quite possibly was father of my Benjamin. Any info about NICHOLS of Guilford County circa 1780-1810 would be MOST welcome! --Bob Nichol Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My direct ancestors moved to Owen and Clay Counties, IN, while other indirect lines moved to Green County, TN and Johnsosn County, IN. Like Ernest, I found that the biggest reason for the migration appeared to land. Land grants in Tennessee were issued by Congress to persons who served as officers in the Revolutionary War. Other lands in Indiana and Illinois opened up in the early 1800's. My ancetors moved to Indiana in the 1810-1830 timeframe ans subsequently to Illinois in the 1830's. It has some interesting information, such as transcriptions of local cemeteries by the local chapter of the "Daughters of the American Revolution" from the 1930's-1960's. In addition, they had about 25 volumes of family trees submitted by people. They also have a good selection of bound volumes of Genealogical Journals from various North Carolina sources. Otherwise, there was a disappointing amount of specific local information. They did have 'Family Files', but most of them were extremely limited in scope. In the four family files that related to me, there was a total of one newspaper clipping. The total number of these files was perhaps 1/10th (or less) compared to what I found in the Asheboro Library in neighboring Randolph County. I wasn't able to make it to the High Point Library.
