I hope that genealogy "beginners" are made aware that the Ancestral File of the LDS Church is notorious for the erroneous material that has been entered [most certainly by well-meaning folk and probably somewhat better than the material found in the commercial "Ancestry" and "Family Tree Maker" files] and that the Church does provide a disclaimer with the data: "The information [in these files] has NOT been verified against any official records. Since the information in Ancestral File is contributed, it is the responsibility of those who use the file to verify its accuracy." Although the Ancestral File does contain extensive errors and NO DOCUMENTATION, nonetheless this will be an interesting experiment and a huge time-saver to those who use these files. Jim W. Hello, I'm "specifically" searching for more information on a Powell STAMPER(STAMPLER/STOMPER/ all variations) who was one of the signers in 1773 for the petition to build a courhouse and jail Guilford Co. I am trying to figure this one out again - Jacob & John Adam STARR were brothers, they married the WEITZEL sisters, Ann Margaret & Catherine. Does anyone have any information on which brother married which sister? and which children go to which couple? Brian H
Saw the name Ellis and it brought to mind that I am searching for an ancestor with the last name Ellis. My Ellis's are from the Kernersville area but some lived in Greensboro. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Mert Ellis is the name that comes to mind at this writing. Thank you. CCoverdale
ROBERT L. WOODARD (1867-after 1912) married MAGGIE (MARGARET?) LOUISE PACE (b.1873Rowan) in April 1890 in Salisbury, Rowan, NC. Maggie was the daughter of JOHN FLETCHER PACE (1844-1901) of Rowan and MARY LOUISE WOODSON PACE (b. abt.1853-55--d.1873Rowan), daughter of OBADIAH and MARIA ANNA FRALEY WOODSON of Rowan. ROBERT L. WOODARD was the son of J. H. WOODARD and E. A(?) WOODARD, residents of Wilson County in 1890 at the time of the marriage of their son to Maggie Pace. The Woodard name is often spelled Woodward, even Woodered, but Robert's marriage certificate says Woodard. ROBERT & MAGGIE WOODARD lived in Guilford County, Greensboro, where Robert was a machinery merchant. They had the following children: Jennie (b.1892); Marvin (b.1898); Charley (b.1901); and Minnie (b. 1902). One of their daughters, possibly Jennie, married a Mr. DURRELL, an actor, and she died in Philadelphia around 1910; she too was on the stage and had participated in stage activities in Guilford before her marriage. In the 1910 census, also living with this family was JULIA ANN REED PACE (b.1815-1911Guilford), Maggie's grandmother who had raised her after the childbirth death of Maggie's mother. Julia Ann Reed Pace is buried in the Greenhill Cemetery, along with Robert L. Woodard. Maggie Pace Woodard is not buried there and her date of death is unknown; perhaps she remarried after the death of Robert L. Woodard.. Maggie Woodard is related to me through her father, JOHN FLETCHER PACE, Police Chief of Salisbury, NC, at the time of his death in 1901. My line comes from his second wife: CLARA BELL WILSON PACE STARR (1857-1943Guilford), who had remarried a widower, REV. HENRY F. STARR (1856-1946Guilford) after the death of John Fletcher Pace in 1901. I believe that his first wife was ANNIE STARR The Clara Bell Wilson Pace and Rev. H. F. Starr are buried in the cemetery of Alamance Presbyterian Church in Guilford, Greensboro. I would love to share information with any researchers of these families in Guilford. Ms. Overton: In Jan 1858 NANCY WALLS married YOUNG PACE in Mecklenburg Co. I have been trying there to find out more about her but without results. It never occurred to me that her family might have been from Guilford, which is also where YOUNG PACE originated. YOUNG PACE (abt 1834-?1898Meck.) was a carpenter in Meck., having served an apprenticeship bond in Guilford, beginning in 1847 when he was apprenticed as an orphan age 13 to saddlemaker Jonathan Armfield. In 1850 he was again apprenticed to cabinet maker Isaac Armfield of Guilford. I believe that this occurred near the Oak Ridge Township, but I am not certain of that. There were other orphan Paces apprenticed in this same time frame. In the 1870 Census for Meck., Young Pace and Nancy Walls Pace had children named Charles, Abner, Gussi(male), and Anamia?(male). I took this from a handwritten census and I am not sure of the spelling on the last two names. They lived next door to NEEDHAM PACE and his wife MARY/MARGARET MYERS PACE, and I believe they were brothers, or at least cousins with a close relationship as both had been apprenticed in Guilford as orphans, as had my own gggrandfather ABNER PACE (1821-1900Rowan). Living with both Needham Pace and Young Pace at one time or another was an elderly ZILPHA/ZELTHA PACE, with her "idiotic" son DAVID PACE. She may have been a mother, grandmother, or aunt of these Paces, all originating in Guilford in the 1830's or before. Her name does appear in the 1840 Guilford census as the head of the household, with numbers of minor children. The apprentice bonds of none of these Paces gives the names of their parents, nor do the bonds specify whether they were total orphans or only that the father was dead. I know that the names your posting gave were WALL not WALLS, but I also don't know that the family didn't sometimes use the extra S on their name. I would appreciate sharing information with you if you can see a connection. Does anyone know the mailing address (post office) for the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. I would like a street address as well as a zip code. I need to write the museum regarding a display they have on the furniture of James GHEEN, furniture maker in mid-1700's. I'm searching for the family of John and Britton Bridges, who bought land in Livingston County, KY in 1804. Before coming to Livingston County, they evidently came through Williamson County, TN, where Britton purchased the land in Livingston from Jacob Scott. Britton married Polly Scott, and she and at least one of their 3 children (Rebecca, Edwin, William) were born in TN. Britton died by 1810. His children inherited from the estate of a John Bridges in 1816, whose estate was administered by a Jesse Williams. One person said that Britton and John may be the children a John Bridges, son of Faith and Edwin Bridgers/Bridges of NC. Does anyone know to whom this family belongs? Or do any of your lines connect to Caldwell/Logan/Christian Counties in KY? These counties neighbor Livingston, and there were lots of Bridges there, too. Thanks. Dawnene Bridges Young
