Does anyone know the location of two, apparently very small towns: Dulsville and Phifersville?. I thought they were in Mecklenburg Co. but no one there has heard of them. Supposedly there were some Pace families there by 1900. Has anyone tried Robert Ragan's genealogy help books, especially the one on searching the net? Are they really helpful? Barbara
I have some Guilford/Orange Co.,NC ancestors who moved first to Jefferson Co., KY then on to Clark Co., IN. Because of this I have some cemetery records from Clark Co. As I was going through them I noticed many names that I also saw from NC research and thought I would offer to do lookups if you are from NC and you think your people migrated through or to Clark Co., IN. Among the names that I recognize are ALLBRIGHT, AMICK, CORTNER, CLAPP. There are many more names listed. Diana ddavis@logicsouth.com Updated 4/27: Gen. Diane, The High Point Enterprise has all the obits in their computer system at the High Point library. I think they go back as far as the 1940s. If you will call the NC Room at the library, they can give you the details. The telephone number is 336 883-3637. The High Point City Cemetery Dept number is 336 883-3408. Theymay be able to tell you if the person you are looking for is buried in a city cemetery. I can give you the numbers of the other cemeteries in High Point if you want them. I am only ten minutes from High Point. Cindy Diane Thomas wrote: > To the list: > > I'm new to the list and wanted to let everyone know the name I'm working on > in Guilford County. To the list: I'm new to the list and wanted to let everyone know the name I'm working on in Guilford County. I'm searching for an obit for J. Henry Thomas who died in High Point in the summer of 1967. We're also looking for an obit and burial place for his wife Helen. Date of death unknown. They lived in High Point. Appreciate any help with these two. Thanks Diane dianet@dcache.net
Hello list, Just wanted to take a moment to let you know that Wayne Dunn has submitted the year 1857 of the newspaper, "The Times" of Greensboro. It is a must read! Keep checking back as he is still working on more. Thanks to Wayne Dunn for such fine work! I have placed on my website all of the events (baptisms, marriages, burials etc.) in my database that I am aware of that took place at Brick Church. The website is at - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lrnoah/ . The link to the Church info is "Some Churches (& cemeteries) of my ancestors". If anyone is interested that does not have web access, I can attach a text file to an email message. I'm not sure if you all know this all ready, but today I discovered that there are images of the 1850 Guilford Co. census online at familytreemaker.com in their genealogy library. They used to just have the index, but yesterday I was able to get a copy of the census page itself. If you don't have access to the library I'd be more than happy to send you a copy of the image, if you can tell me what page it is on. Carol
I'd like to say Thank You to all of those who responded to my "Town Names" question. I received quite a bit of valuable information and direction. While I've learned quite a bit in a short period of time, I am sure I will learn much more as I continue my research. Again, Thank you. Judi
I am wondering if there are people out there who could do a census lookup for me? My ancestor, Elisha Leonard is on the 1850 Guilford Co, Census index. Does anyone have a copy of the census or know where I could find it, to see what else it might say about him? Or maybe on earlier censuses? (like 1840?) Thanks very much! Carol
Hi Folks, Can any point me in a direction where I may find all of the town names and areas that make up Guilford County? Or, possibly a web site? Thanks, Judi
Hi list, Made a boo-boo that I need to correct through the list. Below is I have attached the message that I originally sent to the list. There needs to be a correction on the 3 wills that I typed in. The submitter should read Martha Thayer not Linda Russell Lewis. Sorry Martha! I am researching the LOMAX- MONIAC line and an unknown Creek ? woman who married a Lomax. ASAHEL LOMAX b15 FEB 1787 Guilford Co., NC died abt. 1853 Callaway Co. MO. His parents were WILLIAM PEMLOTT LOMAX and SARAH KNIGHT grandparents ABEL KNIGHT and RACHEL HARE. It is said he was half Indian which I don't believe is true. But his grandmother is RACHEL HARE and it is said she was Creek. He was supposed to have married an Indian woman named BETTY JANE around 1813 in Wilson County, TN. they had four daughters one being ELIZABETH H. LOMAX, and two sons WILLIAM and JESSE He then married LUCINDA VAN BIBBER, 15 OCT 1848 Callaway County, MO., they had no children. His cousin SYDNEY LOMAX, married MATILDA MONIAC daughter of DIXION MONIAC and ELIZABETH ELLIOTT, 4 June 1846 in Bay Minette, Baldwin Co., AL. One son, SYDNEY born 25 Mar 1859, Escambia Co., AL. According to the book Greenwood County Sketches by Margaret Watson, Matilda was a full blooded Creek woman, from the book William Lomax and his Descendants by J.B. Lomax. SYDNEY and MATILDA ran a stagecoach "Stand" on the Federal Road through the Creek Nation, Georgia and Alabama sometime between 1806 and 1836. I have the book The Federal Road, it doesn't mention them, but I have found reference to their stop being close to the CRUIT homestead. Any information would be greatly appreciated and I would be happy to share what I have. Judith Lomax Canavan

Good Morning, It's been quite some time since I've posted any inquiries to the list so thought I'd give it another try since I'm still trying to find out more information on the following families. Much of the following information is proven, some speculation, and I do have more information for those that may be interested. John PAVEY, wife (Mary ANDERSON?) migrated to Guilford Co by 1800 census along with probably the last remaining Nicolites from the Caroline Co, MD/Kent Co, DE area. Apparently, Mary died and John married Frances "Fanny" MARTIN in Guilford on Jan. 21, 1801. Bondsman was Nathaniel MOORE. (John PAVEY purchased land near Jamestown @ Deep River in 1803, sold it in 1807.) Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, Vol. 1, Minutes and Marriage Records...1801, 3 Frances PARAY (form. MARTIN) dis mou. According to Quaker records, Fanny was born 10/19/1758 and she and her family recrq. 1779, 1, 4. (Where from??) "Fanny" was the daughter of James MARTIN. James MARTIN's will was pro. Feb., 1796 names wife: Mary; Sons: John, James and Henry, daus: FRANCES MARTIN; Mary BEESON and Hannah SILLIVAN (Sullivan?) Execs: Nathaniel MACY and Paul MACEY (actual copy of this, PAVEY is written after Paul, then lined out and MACEY entered.) Wit: Joseph IDDINGS; NATHANIEL MOORE; Samuel LAMB (Samuel LAMB was John PAVEY's neighbor, 1803-1807 and signed both of his deeds.) Rebecca PEAVY/PAVEY md: Richard OZMENT in Guilford, on Jan. 11, 1816. He MAY have died within a year (will prob. May, 1817) and had previously been married to Rachel RASHFIELD (this is pure speculation at this point) and probably the son of Samuel OZMENT (the OZMENTs were also from Caroline Co, MD) Guilford Co, NC Will Abstracts - Unrecorded Wills, pg. 145: MARGARET COOK - Noncupative Will - 13 Jan 1817 lists: Rebecca PAVEY, David STACK (he md. Sarah OZMENT, Richard's sister) and ISAAC ANDERSON. Does anyone know anything about this Margaret COOK? Was she the widow of a George COOK?? On the 1800 & 1810 Guilford Co. census, there was a LEVIN WILLIAMS. John PAVEY's sister, Mary "Polly" was md. to a Levin WILLIAMS. They may have had a daughter, Rebecca, who md: Lemuel GUNTER (b: 1804, son of Wm. & Margaret Jones GUNTER) in Guilford Co, 7/3/1824. Any information on any of these families will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Marsha McWilliams
I am looking for information about Elisha LEONARD, who lived in Guilford Co, NC in the 1850's. He was married to Laura REYNOLDS. They moved from NC to Danville, IN in 1857. I think that Elisha is listed in the 1840 Guilford Co Census (under Eli?). Any information on these two would be greatly appreciated! Carol Leonard Sacramento, CA
I am researching my ggg grandparents from Guilford County, NC--James Hendricks/Hendrix( born about 1784 in MD and died in 1869 in TN) and Sally Kirkman Hendricks(born about 1784 in Guilford Co.and died about 1850 in TN). Their son , Roddy Kirkman Hendrix is my gg grandfather. Also, Roddy Hendrix's wife was Mary Emily White, daughter of Benjamin White of NC. Is anyone else researching this line of Hendricks, Kirkman, or White?? Thanks. Susan

I haven't seen a lot activity on the various N.C. lists so I thought I would remind everyone that I am in desperate need of information concerning JOHN HERRALL b.abt. 1795 (according to census of Yancey & Mitchell counties). I first find JOHN and ANNAH living in the vicinity of Big Rock Creek and Harrell Hill in 1810-20..I have information passed down in the family which indicates the father of John may have been HUGH HERRALL...Would like to contact anyone who is researching any Harrell, Herrell, Herrall, Harrold etc. families of western N.C...
