Has anyone heard of Dougan CLARK Sr. or his son, Dougan CLARK Jr.? I would like to know more about him and his ancestors. He apparently was a Quaker minister who lived in North Carolina during the 1780s to 1820s, was descended from the Dougan line of Chester Co. PA and lived in Wayne County, IN. My ancestor, Samuel WALL, named him as one of the two executors of his will, the other being his "beloved Wife, Mary." Who may or may not be a CLARK too; I think Dougan Sr. did have sisters named Mary, Margaret, and Rachel and maybe a Sarah.
Hi Listers, Does anyone know what newspaper served Guilford County in 1830. Need to find a death notice for William LEWIS between Oct. 1830 and Feb. 1831. Also interested in finding death notice for Courtney LEWIS Wooters, d. 12 Apr. 1880 Guilford Co. Are obits this far back on line? Does the Greensboro News and Record have them in their morgue, or would I have to go to Raleigh? Thanks for any help-- Alicia Fox
I wish someone could find old Civil War newspapers and put those on line. I'll bet many of us would find relatives mentioned for heroics, wounds, furloughs, and deaths. Plus the activities of the folks who stayed back home. I wonder if these Civil War newspapers still exist. Hi :) I'm new to this list. I'm researching the Mortimore line. (my father's) The last one that I have was born and married in Guilford Co., NC Abt 1771. He was Robert Mortimore married to Sarah(1794). They had nine children. (whose names I have) my line is John F. Mortimore (b: 1798) married (1821 in Kentucky) to Sarah TEAGER. (Five children) That's the last that have anything to do with NC. All were in Guilford County Glad to be here, Camille Howe

I am looking for information on Obediah Leonard, born around the 1790's. He married Martha Hassel (b. 13 Jan 1793 in Tyrell Co., NC) They had seven children. After the birth of their last child, (1825) Obediah left the family, moved to Kentucky where he had a family with another woman. Does this sound familiar to anyone else?
Hello- Is anyone familiar with the Shaw families of Guilford County? I have a Happy Shaw born about 1795 who married a John Upchurch in Chatham County in 1815. There were very few Shaw's in Chatham so I'm wondering if maybe Happy's family came from Guilford County. Thanks Tim

MARY/POLLY BRUCE/JOHN QUEENSBERRY Mary/Polly BRUCE was born about 1774 in Amelia Co. VA. Died 23 Sept 1859 in Prince Edward Co. VA. She was daughter of Alexander BRUCE and second wife, which her name is unknown, but I believe her mother to have been Rachel WOODSON. Married John QUEENSBERRY before 1795. No marriage record survives but she is named as Polly CUSHENBERRY, wife of John CUSHENBERRY in her father's September 1795 Nottoway Co. Will. In the Prince Edward Co. VA 1859 Death Register, Mary/Polly QUEENSBERRY is listed as being 85 years old, died of "old age", parent is listed as Alexander BRUCE, widow of John QUEENSBERRY and the informant was a son, Alexander QUEENSBERRY. John QUEENSBERRY operated an "Ordinary" in the area of Green Bay, VA. (P.E. Co) He died in 1813. Left no will but his inventory covers several pages in the Prince Edward Co. Three males under 10 years of age, and one between 10 and 16 years old. Females included were two females under 10 years and one female between 26 and 45 years old. Greetings to the list - I am trying to find information on two ancestors of mine - one with a better connection to Guilford Co. Martha G. McClintock b. Jan 1 1804 in Guilford Co. She married Peter Cummings King on March 21, 1831. Peter was born in North Carolina as well in 1808 but I'm unsure where. They had three children - two of which were born in NC - Isabelle Jane King b. 1833 and Levi Jasper King born in 1835. If anyone has information on McClintock's in Guilford I would really appreciate the sharing! Thanks - Jen Herron andyhe@msn.com
