Hi everyone, I have a correction to make about the photo albums from my earlier post. The Telephone number for Charles Dail is 919 528 1370 and is listed as FREET,JOYCE Hillsboro Street Creedmoor, NC 27522 Sorry for the confusion, he didn't include his area code and mine is 336, so I just assumed, and you know what happens when you assume <g>. But I just talked with him and he did not sell them today so they are still available if anyone is interested. Mary Ellis Guilford county.
This morning while at the "Jockey Lot" (a flea market) on Buckhorn Road in Orange county I met a man who has two photo albums. They have one picture per page and have both Pictures and Tin Types. One book has 29 Tin Types and 21 Pictures and the other has 13 Tin Types and 22 Pictures. The name inside one of the books is Wm. Wallace, one picture said Aunt Millie. He wants $80 dollars apiece for the albums. He says they are of a Alamance county family. I thought that there might be someone on the Alamance or Orange list that would be interested. His name is Charles Dail and his telephone number is 336-528-1320. He knows that I am going to put this on the internet. Mary Ellis Guilford county.

I am seeking information on Joseph Mills b abt 1826 and married to Martha Gwinn in 1843. There are many Mills in Guilford county NC but I can not come up with either set of parents for these people. Joseph and Martha are listed in the 1850 Columbus county census. If any one can help please contact me- use private email if you like. Thanks for any help, it will be appreciated. Dale Burriss
Dear James, I am the one who knows the least about my Reed/Reid family. My gggrandmother was JULIA ANN REED (census reports place her date of birth from 1823-1830). She was married in 1843 to ABNER PACE (B.1821) in Guilford Co., NC. I have been unable to find anything at all on her family, even with the help of a professional genealogist in Guilford Co. I think you read my message about Abner Pace being the bondsman (and I think that means a close connection) for the marriage of Sue Bevins and William Emory C. Reid in 1856 in Rowan Co. I believe Julia Ann is connected to this William Reid, whose father was Nathan Reed, mother Mary (Cottrell) of Guilford, who had been married in 1833. At one point (1870 Rowan Co.NC census) was a Catherine Reed, sister in law to Abner, thus sister to Julia Ann, and she was living with them. I was reading from the handwritten census and thought it read Catherine. The later typed version identified this same person as M. C. Reed, sister-in-law, younger than Julia by about 6 years. Abner Pace, by the way, was orphaned and apprenticed at age 16 to saddlemakers Hiatt & Jean in Guilford in 1837. I was beginning to think that perhaps Julia Ann Reed was an orphan also. I am told that Nathan and William were oft repeated names in the Reid/Reed family. The article in the "Heritage Book of Perry Co.ALA" identifies that Nathan as having a wife named Jennett but gives no last name. I note that when this Nathan moved to Alabama, he went with his sons in law, not his sons, who are not mentioned. Perhaps Tom (TCozz57795@aol.com) can give you more information. I have included him as CC on this message, because he has more information than I do. I have forwarded my reply to him to both the Rowan and Guilford mailing list and I don't know which one you are on. I will now forward your message to both since someone there might be able to help you. I did take out your mailing address from your message, although I still have it. Let me know if you can figure a tie to my Julia Ann or to the marriage of William Emory C. Reid that Abner Pace was bondsman for. Dear Tom, I have been trying to research the North Carolina Reeds of Guilford and Rowan, without any luck at all. My gggrandmother was JULIA ANN REED (b.1823-25), parents unknown. She in 1843 married ABNER PACE (b.1821) in Guilford Co., and they moved to Rowan Co., where their only child was born--JOHN FLETCHER PACE (1844-1901Salisbury). Julia Ann may have had a sister/mother named CATHERINE REED, for she lived with Julia Ann and Abner Pace for a short time. In Oct 1856 ABNER PACE was bondsman for the marriage of WILLIAM E. C. REED and SUSAN BEVINGS/BEVINS/BIVINS in Rowan Co., and I have always thought there was a connection between the groom and Abner's wife JULIA ANN REED, now living in Rowan, as were the bride's parents The Heritage Book of Rowan Co. (Article #265, p. 224) was on the BIVINS family of Rowan, and this article said that Susanne "Sue" Bivins (1829-1887) ,married WILLIAM EMORY REID (1823-?) in 1856. She was buried in Liberty Churchyard, Davie County, so I suppose that is where they lived after marrying. The article also said that the parents of the groom were NATHAN and MARY (COTTRELL) REID, married 26 Oct. 1833 in Guilford. The children of Sue and William Reid were: Mary Josephine (1858-?), who married David Granger; Nathan W. (1860-1862); and William (no dates) who married Kate Moore. Given the dates, I wondered if Nathan Reed (m. 1833) could possibly be the brother of my JULIA ANN REED, and the groom her nephew, or some close relative. The Reed/Reid spelling is not significant I think. I have put postings on this Bevins-Reed tie on the mailings lists of Rowan and Guilford, and all over the internet. I even wrote to the author of the article in the "Heritage of Rowan Co." (Marilyn L. Bivins), but received no reply (letter April 1999). This book gave her address in Florida, but the Heritage book was published in 1991 and I feared that she no longer lived at the address given. My letter was not returned to me, and I have no idea how to contact her to ask for further information. I have recently joined the Rowan Co. Genealogy Society and I am hoping that she is still a member of that organization and I can get a better address. I would love to hear from you if you know about this Reed/Reid family, plus anyone else who might have information. I can't find a Perry Co. in North Carolina. Would it have been in Alabama? I am looking for information on the family of Alexander Starrett who lived in Guilford County before the Civil War. This family moved by covered wagon to Easton, Missouri in the late 1850's. If anyone has any information on this Starrett family, please contact me. I have lots of information from 1850 on. Also where would I find access to a copy of "History of Buffalo Presbyterian Church and Her People by Rev. Samuel Meek Rankin? It is my understanding that the Starrett's are mentioned in this book. Thanks in advance for all of your help Jane -- MZ

Robert and Hetty May were in Guilford about 1770, based on the marriage of their daughter Ruth to William Reed. The Reeds went to KY, maybe TN, SC and finally AL in 1816. Robert died in Perry County AL in 1848 at 104. Hetty May died at 114. Anyone have any connections for any of the above? At least can anyone tell me what part of the county they were in? Thanks for reading. Tom

To the Person searching for Robert Bean: Some members of the Bean family migrated from Pittsylvania Co. Va. to east Tennessee about 1775. That area of Tenn. would have been a part of N.C. at the time..Also, there is a creek in Mitchell Co., N.C. named Beans Creek, it flows into Big Rock Creek and is just south of the Tenn. N.C. line and south of Iron Mountain..The area which became Tenn..was known as the Washington District of N.C. and the Beans Creek would have been in Rowan, Burke, Yancey and finally Mitchell County, N.C... This may be a clue...G. Lee Hearl..

Joan I have The Old North State in 1776 by Eli Caruthers.
