    3. Check with the discussion list on this. My Armstrong line is from Co. Tyrone, Ireland near Camus, and had nothing to do with Guilford County. The name Clearwater is not familiar to me, but one wonders if it was an Indian name. I have been primarily interested in southern Guilford County and Northern Randolph county, NC and have never seen Armstrong nor Clearwater in either place. The records are pretty decent - check with the List. I had so many requests, I decided it was a real need, so, I now extend my offer to search all of NC as contained in the following books: "Abstract of NC Wills compiled from Original & Recorded Wills in The Office of the Secretary of State", by J. Bryan Grumes, 1910, reprint 1980 "An Abstract of NC Wills From About 1760 to about 1800, Supplementing Grimes' Abstract of NC Wills 1663 to 1760", by Fred A. Olds, 1925, reprint 1983. Abstracts of Wills Recorded in Orange Co., NC 1752-1800 ... & 1800-1850", by Ruth Herndon Shields, 1957, reprint 1979. "North Carolina Taxpayers 1701-1786", by Clarence E. Ratcliff, 1984 If you're going to request a lookup, please take note of this full information on the books, as I will only refer to them by partial title or author in my answers. Be as specific as you can in your request. It will help me help you. In Olds, I will only check 1 or 2 counties. It is not indexed, but is grouped by alpha under each county that was formed prior to 1800. There is nothing after 1800 in any of these books. Many of these Nicolites migrated (by ca. 1800) to Guilford Co, NC and mainly lived near Jamestown on Deep River. I think I may have a little on these Paynes and will check for you. 2. Hi Everyone, I'm researching a Daniel Luther Payne Roberts bn June 1830 in Guilford Co North Carolina. The record used to determine his place of birth was his CSA discharge. He married in Union Co GA in 1860. He served in a TN unit during the Civil War and was discharded in Knoxville. He lived a short time in MO then left there to live in Boone Co AR where he appears in the 1880 Census. He moves before the 1900 census to Crawford Co AR where he dies. HIs middle name I beleive perhaps represents his mothers maiden name and I'm hopeing it may ring a bell with someone. Thanks Beth Roberts
